A former New Order man is now traditional and wants out of the Knights of Columbus.  He is a 3rd degree and it the head of his group. We suggested that he write a letter and copies to the others related to the issue.

Is there any other tips or suggestions as to how to handle this issue.

Stop paying dues.

They have a poll tax. Somebody will be paying for him.

If you are from a small town, being as non-confrontational as possible is probably the best way to go. The risk of scandal with a big to-do about leaving is serious, but leaving quietly in a dignified manner is more likely to bring about trust and respect, which help others in the direction of the truth more than a blowout.


I'm sure many of us have scandalized others by our new found zeal, and put them off in such a way that may prevent "conversion". Speaking from experience, here.

They will still keep his name on the membership list until he makes a formal written rsignation.

A friend of mine joined the Knights of Columbus in the mid-1960s.  He maintained membership into the 1990s.  He never assisted in the Novus Ordo.  Sometime in the mid-1990s, he sent a letter to the Knights of Columbus to formally resign.  He has continued to receive newsletters and mailings for Knights of Columbus members to this day.  Even when he moved, the mail ended up being forwarded and then returned.  They found his new address and continued mailing things to him.  He recently moved again and is wondering whether they will re-located him.  He told me that he returned mailings with a note that he resigned his membership for about a year in the early 2000s.  

He told me he doesn't think it's actually possible to resign from the Knights.
