We'll see what happens. Perhaps if in theory (although very low chance) Cardinal Burke was elected Pope, it could also be a way for him to make up for anything he may have done wrong in the past, although there is the misunderstanding of or opposition to the SSPX (and more than likely any kind of more hardcore traditional Catholicism like that of the Resistance or sedevacantists) he has held, considering his canon law background. I don't know though. There is the legitimate concern as expressed here that it could be another situation like that of Benedict XVI, where the modernism is more well hidden, but the difference would be that Cardinal Burke is of a young generation of clerics who had a different and lesser grade of priestly formation (if one is to call it that in some cases). If Cardinal Burke was Pope, possibly certain regularized or diocesan Traditional Latin Mass priests who are amenable to Tradition would be helpful in convincing him to soften his stance against the SSPX and other groups with a more understanding approach. He is a stickler for Canon Law still though since that is his background, but people can change, even if rare.
Remember what St. Nicholas of Flüe said:
“The Church will be punished because the majority of her members, high and low, will become so perverted. The Church will sink deeper and deeper until she will at last seem to be extinguished, and the succession of Peter and the other Apostles to have expired. But, after this, she will be victoriously exalted in the sight of all doubters.”
We must not despair then but rather hope.
