My intersession course at the C. W. Post Campus of Long Island University will end in two days. The last three lectures, including the one to be given this morning, January 9, 2007, will focus on the specifics of the various political ideologies that have emerged from the time of the Renaissance to our present day as a sterile, secular substitute for the Catholic Faith. That is, each and every political ideology proposes that it has the means by which human problems may be resolved, usually relying upon some form of structural "reform" and/or social engineering, which might include the "liquidation" of those who are deemed to be responsible for "causing" social problems.

It cannot possibly be, you see, that the problems of the world are caused by Original Sin and our own Actual Sins and can be ameliorated only by the daily reformation of individual souls in cooperation with the Sanctifying Graces that Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ entrusted exclusively to the Catholic Church and that flow to us through the loving hands of Our Lady, the Mediatrix of All Graces. It cannot possibly be the case that all men in all places at all times are called to subordinate themselves in every aspect of their lives to the Deposit of Faith that resides solely in the Catholic Church. No, prideful man, puffed up by the devil and his minions, must assert that he has the ability to "change" the world for the better by his own wild schemes and imaginings. There is no need to hearken back to the "past" of Christendom, a time that has come and gone.

This warped view of the world links the scions of Modernity with the scions of Modernism in the conciliar church. This linkage has been noted on this site in any number of articles in the past year.

However, it is important to point this out repeatedly, especially at a time when it appears possible that traditional Catholics may be invited to have their little corner in the One World Religion that has replaced the Catholic Church as the "Church of Christ." Remember, Benedict XVI said in Turkey on November 30, 2006, that the Patriarch of Constantinople is a "pastor in the Church of Christ," meaning that one can belong to the "Church of Christ" while dissenting from papal primacy, the Filioque, Purgatory, divorce and remarriage, and contraception, among other things. It is not a terrible stretch for the Hegelian Joseph Ratzinger to invite those who believe that truth, whatever that is in Benedict's mind of contradiction and paradox and syntheses galore,, has been "anchored" in tradition so that they can feel "good" once again about having a "place" in the official structures of the conciliar church. The "Church of Christ" is "big enough" for the truly schismatic and heretical Orthodox and for traditional Catholics who have not yet adapted themselves to the "springtime of the Church" in our new "civilization of love." I guess that the late Lyndon Baines Johnson, who was a member of the Disciples of Christ, would have felt very much at home in a view of the "church" broad enough to encompass authentic heretics and schismatics of all stripes as well as believing Catholics.

Benedict XVI is absolutely relentless in manifesting his apostate views on the nature of the Church and on her role in the world. It was just three days ago, on January 6, 2007, that Benedict once again called for a "new humanism" as the foundation of opposing secularism in the world, stating that even non-Christian religions have a role to play in this "new humanism." Why in the world did Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ even bother to become Man in Our Lady's Virginal and Immaculate Womb if religions other than Catholicism, the one and only true religion, are good enough to "reform" the world? Benedict does not believe in the Catholic Faith. He does not believe that the Catholic Church was given a mission by her Divine Bridegroom to seek the conversion of all men and of all nations to the true Faith in order for there to be peace in souls and order within and among nations.

This is what Benedict said on January 6, 2007, as reported by the Associated Press.

VATICAN CITY (AP) -- Religious leaders of all faiths must play a role in ensuring that the spiritual and cultural aspects of life are not forgotten as mankind tackles the challenges of globalization, Pope Benedict XVI said Saturday.

In his homily during Mass in St. Peter's Basilica, the pope said recent decades have seen a "challenge to global civilization, where the center can no longer be Europe and not even that which we call the West or the North of the world."

"The need emerged to elaborate a new world political and economic order, but at the same time and above all, a spiritual and cultural one _ that is, renewed humanism," he said.

"At the start of the Third Millennium we find ourselves smack in the middle of this phase of human history, that has been for some time dubbed 'globalization.'"

The pope said that while politicians, scientists and researchers play important roles in the modern world, "today, more than ever, it is necessary to place at their side the leaders of the great non- Christian religious traditions" as well as Christian leaders.

 

This apostate view of the world has been condemned. It has been condemned by numerous popes. It was condemned in very specific terms by Pope Saint Pius X in Notre Charge Apostolique, August 15, 1910:

But, on the contrary, by ignoring the laws governing human nature and by breaking the bounds within which they operate, the human person is lead, not toward progress, but towards death. This, nevertheless, is what they want to do with human society; they dream of changing its natural and traditional foundations; they dream of a Future City built on different principles, and they dare to proclaim these more fruitful and more beneficial than the principles upon which the present Christian City rests.

No, Venerable Brethren, We must repeat with the utmost energy in these times of social and intellectual anarchy when everyone takes it upon himself to teach as a teacher and lawmaker - the City cannot be built otherwise than as God has built it; society cannot be setup unless the Church lays the foundations and supervises the work; no, civilization is not something yet to be found, nor is the New City to be built on hazy notions; it has been in existence and still is: it is Christian civilization, it is the Catholic City. It has only to be set up and restored continually against the unremitting attacks of insane dreamers, rebels and miscreants. omnia instaurare in Christo.

 

Really, what more needs to be said? It is insanity to believe that non-Christian "religions," which stem from the devil and lead souls to Hell for all eternity, can help to "reform" the world and instill a spirit of "religiosity." This is, after all, the exact goal of ʝʊdɛօ-Masonry, which seeks to do the bidding of the Sanhedrin in our own day, repeating this scene from the Acts of the Apostles as Benedict plays the role of the Sanhedrin priests as he warns us not to be too confessionally Catholic in our words and actions:

And calling in the apostles, after they had scourged them, they charged them that they should not speak at all in the name of Jesus; and they dismissed them.

And they indeed went from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were accounted worthy to suffer reproach for the name of Jesus. And every day they ceased not in the temple, and from house to house, to teach and preach Christ Jesus. (Acts 5: 40-42)

 

Well, my friends, the more that Benedict and his fellow apostates in the conciliar church tell us that we have to seek "common ground" with unbelievers and to respect the condemned heresy of "religious liberty" is the more that we must do as the Apostles did by teaching and preaching "Christ Jesus" in word and in deed. We must remember that Catholic popes spoke and wrote as Pope Saint Pius X above--and as Pope Leo XIII below, writing in Sapientiae Christianae, January 10, 1890:

But with what bitterness and in how many guises war has been waged against the Church it would be ill-timed now to urge. From the fact that it has been vouchsafed to human reason to snatch from nature, through the investigations of science, many of her treasured secrets and to apply them befittingly to the divers requirements of life, men have become possessed with so arrogant a sense of their own powers as already to consider themselves able to banish from social life the authority and empire of God. Led away by this delusion, they make over to human nature the dominion of which they think God has been despoiled; from nature, they maintain, we must seek the principle and rule of all truth; from nature, they aver, alone spring, and to it should be referred, all the duties that religious feeling prompts. Hence, they deny all revelation from on high, and all fealty due to the Christian teaching of morals as well as all obedience to the Church, and they go so far as to deny her power of making laws and exercising every other kind of right, even disallowing the Church any place among the civil institutions of the commonweal. These men aspire unjustly, and with their might strive, to gain control over public affairs and lay hands on the rudder of the State, in order that the legislation may the more easily be adapted to these principles, and the morals of the people influenced in accordance with them. Whence it comes to pass that in many countries Catholicism is either openly assailed or else secretly interfered with, full impunity being granted to the most pernicious doctrines, while the public profession of Christian truth is shackled oftentimes with manifold constraints.

Under such evil circuмstances therefore, each one is bound in conscience to watch over himself, taking all means possible to preserve the faith inviolate in the depths of his soul, avoiding all risks, and arming himself on all occasions, especially against the various specious sophisms rife among non-believers. In order to safeguard this virtue of faith in its integrity, We declare it to be very profitable and consistent with the requirements of the time, that each one, according to the measure of his capacity and intelligence, should make a deep study of Christian doctrine, and imbue his mind with as perfect a knowledge as may be of those matters that are interwoven with religion and lie within the range of reason. And as it is necessary that faith should not only abide untarnished in the soul, but should grow with ever painstaking increase, the suppliant and humble entreaty of the apostles ought constantly to be addressed to God: "Increase our faith.''

But in this same matter, touching Christian faith, there are other duties whose exact and religious observance, necessary at all times in the interests of eternal salvation, become more especially so in these our days. Amid such reckless and widespread folly of opinion, it is, as We have said, the office of the Church to undertake the defense of truth and uproot errors from the mind, and this charge has to be at all times sacredly observed by her, seeing that the honor of God and the salvation of men are confided to her keeping. But, when necessity compels, not those only who are invested with power of rule are bound to safeguard the integrity of faith, but, as St. Thomas maintains: "Each one is under obligation to show forth his faith, either to instruct and encourage others of the faithful, or to repel the attacks of unbelievers.'' To recoil before an enemy, or to keep silence when from all sides such clamors are raised against truth, is the part of a man either devoid of character or who entertains doubt as to the truth of what he professes to believe. In both cases such mode of behaving is base and is insulting to God, and both are incompatible with the salvation of mankind. This kind of conduct is profitable only to the enemies of the faith, for nothing emboldens the wicked so greatly as the lack of courage on the part of the good. Moreover, want of vigor on the part of Christians is so much the more blameworthy, as not seldom little would be needed on their part to bring to naught false charges and refute erroneous opinions, and by always exerting themselves more strenuously they might reckon upon being successful. After all, no one can be prevented from putting forth that strength of soul which is the characteristic of true Christians, and very frequently by such display of courage our enemies lose heart and their designs are thwarted. Christians are, moreover, born for combat, whereof the greater the vehemence, the more assured, God aiding, the triumph: "Have confidence; I have overcome the world." Nor is there any ground for alleging that Jesus Christ, the Guardian and Champion of the Church, needs not in any manner the help of men. Power certainly is not wanting to Him, but in His loving kindness He would assign to us a share in obtaining and applying the fruits of salvation procured through His grace.

The chief elements of this duty consist in professing openly and unflinchingly the Catholic doctrine, and in propagating it to the utmost of our power. For, as is often said, with the greatest truth, there is nothing so hurtful to Christian wisdom as that it should not be known, since it possesses, when loyally received, inherent power to drive away error. So soon as Catholic truth is apprehended by a simple and unprejudiced soul, reason yields assent.

 

Enough. The contrast between Catholicism and conciliarism is clear. Benedict's very blueprint for "confronting" a secularized world stands condemned as insanity by Pope Saint Pius X. If the words of this great saint are not enough to convince people that conciliarism is an counterfeit religion spawned by the Modernism he fought so bravely then no more verbiage on this page is going to do so.

We must continue our New Year of the Lord 2007 by making reparation to the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary for the offenses rendered to her Divine Son and to her in these times of apostasy. Let us keep saying our Rosaries every day as we keep Mary's Divine Son company in His Real Presence. The triumph of Our Lady's Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart will come when we least expect it. May it be our privilege to plant a few seeds by defending the truth and opposing the errors of Modernity in the world and Modernism in the conciliar church with all of the strength that she can send us.
