  • Why does anyone remain in the NO?  I have family who are NO and when I bring things like this to their attention they just shrug and say something non-committal :fryingpan:

Scandals, even on the scale and to the degree of that linked, don't warrant leaving.

I think that many stay out of habit, false/deceptive if convincing consolation, and these things are reinforced by the very things that are characteristically Catholic, namely things like "everyone else is doing it", particularly family.

It is hard to be the odd-ball, to see everyone else going to "mass", the subtle pressures, the isolation and loneliness... then the "Catholic guilting" and dynamic silences of the same people.

In large part this is what happened to my "ex". I watched it happen, I told her it was happening; she denied, and denied, and denied, but bit by bit she caved and went from making sense, to nonsense and turned into the very creature that she strove with previously.

It's really sad to watch that, it's like losing someone to a pod person. They literally change into something else.

It can be particularly confusing if, against Christ's words, we understandably keep going by externals, by appearances. This is part of the horror and heartbreak because there is a monster wearing the skin of someone you wanted to have kids with, and now the monster is just darned "nice", "charitable" , "patient", "kind" etc.

That mutual "alien-ness" puts any effective commo directly into the hands of God.

I see this with people like Stubborn, or speaking to Atheists; you get suckered into thinking that you're on the same page, with the same words, and the same thoughts but the underlying principles, the very software, uses the same corpus of representations, signs, symbols etc. in a diametrically opposite and utterly foreign way.

It really is nigh impossible to adequately describe to one who hasn't been through it.

It really is like alien horror, like they're taken over, like "Stepford Wives".

Anyway, more than enough of that.

I should add, much as it may anger and annoy, that the NO is far less incoherent, inconsistent, and incongruous that some "alternatives" that are really part of the same critter, such as the "SSPX", "Recognize and Resist", and other per/mutations that keep Frankie chained to a missal like some Petrine pit-bull.

He's either the pope, or he isn't, and people should act like it.

    Sorry to hear that, DZ.

I have friends with traditionalist views. These friends have been to SSPX Masses and also have attended the Masses offered by Father Patrick Perez.
    .
Yet, one attends the Novus Ordo Masses because she did not like Father Patrick. She will walk out and leave a NO Mass if she sees aberrations like a clown parade or a smudge pot with dancing girls attending it. Then she will feel very guilty for not loving Native Americans. It seems like she is forever on guilt trips, and she even laughs about it. That keeps her in the Novus Ordo.
    .
On the other hand, I have another traditionalist friend who will attend an SSPX Mass one Sunday, then she goes to the Priestly Fraternity of Pius V (whatever initials they use) for the next Sunday Mass. She prefers the Pius V fraternity even though they are under the local Roman Catholic Bishop. She says there is no difference between the two Fraternities as both use the Traditional Latin Mass, both pray for Francis during the Canon, and both hear her confession and give her absolution and Communion.
    .
Then we have our local Catholic neighbors who will rush to the 20 minute Sunday Mass down the street to fulfill their weekly obligation. Twenty minutes a week is all they owe to the Lord, so they hurry to get that obligation done as quickly as possible and as early as possible so they have the rest of the day to spend with their relatives. When they ask me where I attend Church, and I tell them that I am a Trad, they look at me as if I were from Mars, then they make some kind of smart answer like, "I have heard of Trads, but I thought that they no longer existed."
    Lord have mercy.

No worries ma'am, but thank you; it would have been worse had I caved and gotten "hitched" with NO annulments that aren't even fitting as TP, and reverted myself. There are worse things than dying alone, namely going to Hell and taking your fake wife and real kids with you.

The SSPV? It would be far more than odd if they were under the local ordinary, but perhaps you mean the ICKSP or the FSSP? All of these acronyms give me a headache. I wish, just once, I good just go to a certainly valid, licit, Catholic mass. In other words, like it was. YOu know, where I had a parish, that was the parish that I was actually supposed to be under, with "just" a parish priest, no "Society this" or "Ordinariate that".

It's really sad to think that the only valid and licit sacrament that you know you've received is Baptism; then again that in and of is wonderful, so forget the gripes.
