(CNN) – As Pope Francis prepares to celebrate his first Christmas at the Vatican, Americans' opinions of the pontiff appear to be as high as the dome on St. Peter's Basilica, according to a new survey.

A CNN/ORC International poll released Tuesday found that 88% of American Catholics approve of how Francis is handling his role as head of the 1.2 billion-member church.

I think what they mean is 88% of American Catholics who took their poll.  

Problem is, how many are there who didn't take the poll because it's ridiculous?

So is there going to be a midnight "mass" at St. Peter's Basilica?  

In L.A. Archdiocese most "midnight masses" are actually 10:00 pm Christmas Eve 'masses' because starting at midnight is too inconvenient for everyone.

Actually, at the SSPX seminary in Winona, when I was there, midnight Mass usually started at about 11PM because the Mass counted for Christmas as long as the Offertory began after midnight.

How many want to make a bet that when it comes to this report we won't be hearing the N.O. cries against the inaccuracies of the MSM?  

Very true.

It reminds me of a time back in approx 1998.  60 Minutes described a person who was advocated that Pope Pius XII was silent on the suffering of the Jєωs during WWII as "a devout lifelong Catholic" when the very same man they described so had himself written in a public forum several years before that he thought religious belief was psychologically damaging to the believer and only a miracle would change his point of view.    

The press counts on the short term memory of the reader and it counts on the fact that most people consume daily news in a superficial manner.  They know full well that the vast majority of readers aren't going to research the person advocating the idea just as much as the idea to see if there is any tangible evidence of a deception going on.  

Another example is the Reverend Barry Lynn who was actually an ACLU type who got a theology diploma from some fly-by-night operation then he was applauded by the media as a pastor who thought crosses should be banned.  Now, in the last few years, they have stopped using him as a go to guy not because the mainstream media changed their tune but they know they can' t push Barry Lynn and still fool the public at large.  Now they use other people.  

All of the above are examples of what is happening with this poll that shows how popular Pope Francis is and if you're not Catholic and if you think all religious should "co-exist" then there's nothing to dislike in Pope Francis.  The press is going to fawn over this guy all the days of his pontiff so it's just the way things are.  If Mass attendance in the U.S. slips below 20% and then slips below 15% the storyline will be as follows:  "Beloved Pope sees church decline" and the press will never bring up the before / after affects of Vatican II.  The storyline we are to willingly adopt as consumers of the mainstream media is that religion is ridiculous and even a lovable doofus like Pope Fancis just can't breath life into it.

However, back to the poll, even if 99% of those polled approved of him and even if 70,000,000 Catholics in the U.S. all took part in this poll, well, my response is simply "So what!"  We follow the Catholic faith as a Deposit of Faith handed down by Our Lord.  If we shrink to barely a hundred, as long as we follow Christ then all is well.
