For what doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his own soul? Or what exchange shall a man give for his soul?

  • We can't know what +ABL would have thought. We can only go by what his words and actions said while he was alive.
"It is licit to resist a Sovereign Pontiff who is trying to destroy the Church. I say it is licit to resist him in not following his orders and in preventing the execution of his will. It is not licit to Judge him, to punish him, or to depose him, for these are acts proper to a superior."

  • The 2nd option is interesting, insofar as it suggests Fr. Chazal’s position is at odds with +Lefebvre’s (whereas Lad’s approach has been to argue that  Chazal’s position was actually the “real rr of +Lefebvre,” while the rest of us have deviated from it somehow.

  • I chose option #2 because I believe that Father Chazal's position best represents the spirit of charity and humility that Archbishop Lefebvre was known for...

I doubt that the Archbishop would ever have officially proclaimed himself a sede even if he privately held the opinion.

That being said...  I think he would likely have given up any sort of effort to "reconcile with Rome" after seeing Bergoglio, and actually probably even with Ratzinger as the latter was the one whose inability to come to a good compromise triggered him to consecrate the four bishops in the 80's.

Actually, I envisioned that a similar observation would be made and that’s why I added this: “He may have already held a similar position”

That was what I thought you probably meant by it.  :cowboy:
