This is a criticism of R&R with which I agree.

I've long objected also to the "Faith is greater than obedience." maxim being applied to justify R&R.

When it comes to the MAGISTERIUM, we are not talking about simple obedience to positive commands.

I agree. You cannot say that you accept the authority of the Pope and then believe that you can pick and choose what you will submit to or what you will question. It is schismatic to do so.

What about saying "whether the pope is the pope or not, I submit to everything  that does not offend God."

Is that still R&R?

A more precise way to put the question is this:  Does Jorge Bergoglio have a valid claim to the papacy?  Yes or no?

The traditional Catholic teaching is that public heretics don't have a valid claim on any ecclesiastical offices.  Period.

There is some question about who has the authority to determine who is and isn't a public heretic especially in regard to the claimant to the papacy.  Regardless of that question, we are all certainly allowed to make a personal judgement about whether or not an individual's doctrine is heretical.  And I note that all traditionalists reject Bergoglio's doctrine.

Yes, those of us who know the conciliar popes have corrupted themselves, also know that we cannot obey a corrupt pope when he promulgates laws and etc. that are anti-Catholic and lead to sin and the loss of faith. This fact always remains at the forefront and always applies whether the pope is pope or not.

I maintain that God gives everyone of us the graces to persevere and grow in the faith, regardless of the crisis and regardless whether the pope is pope or not. Granted, it may seem like it would be easier to keep the faith if there was no V2, no crisis and no such thing as a conciliar pope or Church, but that whole line of thinking is foolish.

"If the pope was the pope we would not be in this mess", but whether the pope is the pope or not, we are in this mess because God knows what is best for us. It is for the sake of His elect that He allowed this crisis and this confusion - whether the pope is pope or not, He expects us to use this crisis He gave us for our salvation so that it's purpose is not in vain.

He gave a now corrupt and faithless world, corrupt and faithless popes - we do not expect sound doctrines from corrupt popes, we expect corrupt doctrines from corrupt popes and are not permitted to obey or accept corrupt doctrines - whether he is pope or not, that fact remains and that is what is important for our salvation.
