It seems to me that tradition is currently affected by two errors. One is a problem with our hearts, and the other is a problem in our heads.
The problem of our head is that too many of us are validity freaks. And, this is coming from a former validity freak myself. So, I know the means, and I am horrified of the end. It seems that there is a trend to favor some illicit swap out of of the 3 conditions for a valid sacrament. Validity of the minister, which was more so presumed than doubted in the past(and on a side note, Thuc line is a totally different conversation), similar to marriage outside of catholics and the church, has been placed as an essential condition for a valid sacrament. And, it is replacing the true 3rd condition for a valid sacrament, which is intention of the minister. And intention, when you look at many trads opinions, is becoming less and less significant. Validity was not even a word mentioned in the traditional three conditions. Yet, if you listen to matthew or sean johnson, you would think otherwise. This is a big error. The only way in my opinion to resolve this is(unless there is an explicit impediment) to measure it against faith and morals, and listen closely, intention. Because, a pope has a right to change the matter and the form. In terms of explicit impediments, our situation is in like hyper chaos. However, principles will always remain. And, that is what we fall back. We always have the deposit of the faith, it is simply up to us to preserve it, particularly in principle. Christ did not have to tell the apostles that the matter of his sacrament would be his breath and the form would be his words. He simply breathed on them and said, receive ye the holy ghost.
The problem of our heart is that we neglect the merits of Jesus. There is an error currently in the church which denies human merit in the plan of salvation, so why should I be surprised that the merits of Jesus Christ for the world are denied or on the decline in tradition. The law was written on the hearts of all men with Jesus. And, God renders unto all according to their works. The majority of us do not believe in flat earth thank God, yet we want to live as if flat earth were the case. We want to believe we are in a bubble, and outside of that tradition bubble the merits of Jesus do not apply. And, we wonder why the devil finds flat earth a favorable temptation? It is right up many of our alley's. Mark 9:40 - he that is not against you is for you. I don't think many of us know what that which is against us really looks like. But, I will tell you, conservative manifestations of the novus ordo do not resemble that which is truly against us. Yet, these and the indult are as good as dead in many traditionalists bubble. When, the fact is that these types would benefit from our insights, and we would benefit from their cooperation. And, this does not mean we need to coordinate with each other. But, we will not benefit from alienating each other. This zero tolerance policy for lay traditionalists attending the indult or even the novus ordo has to stop. The catholic world is much much bigger than the geography that resistance/sspx has tried to cover. If you do not move mountains, you will in the end say to the mountains, fall on us.
