Medjugorje: Fraud or legit?

  • I saw this topic in another thread.  The 'apparitions' are not of God, nor are the seers credible.

    Anyone interested in discussing this?

  • Ah, so you are going to start the thread.  Yes, this is wheat that needs threshing.  Shall we?  Cub, Pinoy?

  • I'm willing, but how would you like to approach the topic?

Personally, I'm rather scandalised by some of the quotations provided in my article.  Did anyone else get a chance to look at that?

  • I'm not sure.  Put the link up again and I'll see.  I would say go the way Veritatis pointed, with Medjugorje, fraud or legit.  Let's handle it like a debating team.

  • Yes, I did read that, and you're right, it is scandalous.  I think the only reason it is accepted is because people are ignorant of Church teaching in the first place and fail to use their brains in the second place.

First I have to confess that I never did follow Medjugorje, so I'm relatively ignorant of the "locutions".  But we have all identified false ecuмenism as one of the marks of the false church, thus also of false apparitions.  It makes sense to me that other apparitions which endorse those we know to be false, must also be false.  It would be nice if we could identify those which are false and why they must be false.  But first Medjugorje.  We need someone to argue the other side of this in order to cover all bases.  Where are you, Cub?

  • The quotes above are sufficient to determine that this "apparition" is false, and that the message is crap from the devil.

  • Agreed, Gladius_Veritatis.

Doesn't Mr. TheCub want to say anything in his defence?

  • Not his defense, THEIR defense.  Actually, I don't recall Cub pushing Medjugorje, but I'm guessing he hasn't looked at it critically.  Cub, this thread is not for your harms, as the Lord says, but is a "must" if one will retain intellectual integrity and safety in this world where traps are set side by side.  Come help us get to the bottom of this.

Medjugorje didn't start out that way. It seemed promising, at first. And 'the usual suspects' seemed to oppose it. That helped with credibility.

But one thing that really seemed odd was the volume of messages, that really said nothing, or added nothing to those before. Month after month, year after year. That started to look odd. Then a few messages showed up that just - weren't right. And the seers seemed hardly changed in their behavior, in their lives.

And I think more than a few years ago people had to face the fact that this had all the makings of a fraud.

There are some who even question Fatima, and that the 'faith will not be lost in Portugal'. People look at Portugal and say - where is Catholicism? Never mind Ireland. What about Portugal? Perhaps it is has not been lost, but is hidden?

  • I also marvel at the fact that Ivan, wherever he travels with his "P.T. Barnum" style show manages to have the Mother of God materialize on demand. Like he carries her in a suitcase. That and the fact that the whole thing is like the area surrounding Elvis's Graceland with people hawking all sorts of junk. Especially the requisite Holy Rosary complete with color changing chains. Yikes!!  When the followers speak of this they go into some sort of trance like vocal pattern.
