  • Continuing his reflections on the family, Pope Francis devoted his April 8 general audience to suffering children.

“From the first moments of their lives, some are rejected, abandoned, and robbed of their infancy and future,” said the Pope, according to Vatican Radio’s summary of his remarks.

“There are those who say it is a mistake to bring these children into the world, due to their fragility, and the hunger and poverty they suffer,” the Pope continued. “But children are never a mistake, and their sufferings are only reasons for us to love them even more.”

Noting that “even in wealthy countries, [children] suffer due to family crises and living conditions which are at times inhumane,” Pope Francis said that “the Church offers her maternal care to all children and their families, and she brings them the blessing of Jesus. May we always care for our children, not counting the cost, so that they may never believe themselves to be mistakes, but always know their infinite worth.”

They're also not a mistake when they're the eighth caesarean.

  • Or when their parents "breed like rabbits"
Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

  • Y'all are missing the point.

He's saying that Children, themselves, are never a mistake; the mistake is in having more than your fair share, i.e., breeding like rabbits, that's the mistake.  Once they come, they're not a mistake but if you have "too many" and the end up in "living conditions which are at times inhumane" then you shouldn't have had so many, even though they're still not a mistake.  So, the bottom line, when you put the various statements on the matter from this immanent [sic] theologian together, it's a mistake not to take precautions and have too many children but each individual child isn't a mistake but you should really know better than to have so many.

Besides, maybe we won't have to worry so much about too many children after his church adopts his new guidelines on gαy couples in October.

  • The decay is pretty bad when the novus ordo pope is celebrated for saying children are never a mistake.

Is he going to say murder and rape is bad tomorrow and be applauded for it?

Do the novus ordo clergy think that if they stand up for Catholic morality regarding marriage and family that 90% of their parishioners will say "What?  I can't use birth control?  I thought that Vatican II said that I was free to choose my own conscience?" and then get up and walk out?

In this post, which Poche cherry-picked, the pope is once again hiding the actual hard words with a bunch of soft ones so the reader can pick and choose and ignore some words because it's clear that the pope only said them to please recalcitrant Catholics who either can't or won't get with the times.  What does the pope think on this issue?  It's hard to tell because if the speaker wants us to also read between the lines (i.e., interpret what he's trying to say) then we can conclude that the pope is actually trying to hide what he is actually saying.

Thanks, TKGS, for clearing that up for us. Now it's clear as mud.

    Now it's clear as concrete.

    Methinks he protests too much!

Besides, it's pretty hard to not think of yourself as a mistake when your parents tell their friends and even strangers, "Oh! she's our little mistake."

The Pope is saying what the Church has always said about children from the beginning.

That is how you interpret the words but there's no saying what Pope Francis actually means.
