    • He seems to try to smooth things over about the Mass then states this concerning the Pope, “He is well aware that what has been sacred for so many generations cannot be scorned and banished overnight,” Totally lets the cat out of the bag.  Or am I missing something?

    • Or, he was just a token black cardinal from Africa, who was a “champion” of the Latin mass during the fake-conservative papacies of JP2 and Benedict.  Sarah was never a big fan of the sspx back then, he was always promoting the indult.  I don’t think anyone “got to him”, he was just as fake as every “conservative” in new rome.  He goes left or right depending on the pope.

    • This may be classic romanitas at work.

    I've had to wonder, quite aside from Francis (possibly) thinking he might not make it through that operation, and wanting to squash the TLM (or try to) once and for all, no vacatio legis to stand in the way if he didn't pull through.

    But on the other hand, did he actually use the situation, to "take out the belt", as it were, "crack the whip", thinking that he could scare people into not resisting Newchurch, or else they might lose the TLM altogether --- "if you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding"? 

    Two things that stood out to me about TC, is that he didn't really criticize the TLM itself all that much, rather, he did not like the element it was attracting, and the growth it was engendering --- "if this keeps up, goodbye Vatican II, goodbye Novus Ordo" --- and also, he didn't mention the SSPX at all.

    It struck me as the move of a desperate man running scared.  Unless it wasn't.

    • Cardinal Sarah is an ambitious a good careerist, perhaps, perhaps hoping to be thought of as an unthreatening compromise to his brother Cardinals who'll be need to replace Francis. I always found his stuff longwinded and empty. And it's not even the first V2 love bomb he dropped.

    Better than Francis would be a very low bar indeed, but +Sarah would genuinely be far, far better than others like +Tagle. Ultimately if they rise to a certain level, whether +Burke or Sarah, they are company men selling the V2 product from a different angle.
