If +Peter Erdo (Peter the Roman?) becomes next Pope, it's over for the liberals. It's quite possible he may be elected Pope in the next 5-10 years. The below article says he is the number 1 favorite to succeed the present Pope, Francis.

Quote
Quote According to the Italian Vatican expert website, the Hungarian cardinal is in many ways the recently canonized II. Péter Erdő can be considered the successor of John Paul II, the most likely to be chosen as the successor of Pope Francis. The Hungarian cardinal is also high on the list of bookmakers, Mandiner wrote.

The general consensus is that the head of the challenged Catholic Church is looking for someone who will have time to implement reforms, so cardinals in their 70s or younger have the best chances.

The head of the Catholic Church in Hungary was already in the XVI. Even after Benedict's resignation, he was mentioned as a candidate for the papal seat, but in 2013, due to his relatively young age, this scenario did not materialize, but ten years later, according to experts, Péter Erdő is considered the number one candidate.

According to the analysis, in addition to his ideal age, he also has experience as a church leader and pastor, as well as being able to appeal to conservatives without excessively repelling the "progressives".

Erdő tries to improve the relationship between the Catholics and the Orthodox churches as much as possible, which is important because for the Vatican this is a more important ecuмenical goal than unity with the Protestant churches.

- writes the Italian newspaper, according to which the Hungarian cardinal is in many ways the recently canonized II. He could be considered the successor of János Pál.

The conclave electing the pope consists of cardinals younger than 80 years old, their number in December 2023 is 137. They will decide on the successor of the currently 87-year-old Pope Francis. In the last two centuries, popes have emerged from among cardinals. Voting takes place behind the closed doors of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican, with a secret decision. Voting usually lasts 1-2 days, although there were times when it took a week to select a successor.

"So, who exactly is Cardinal Erdő?

Cardinal Erdő is considered a traditionalist who respects the celebration of the Latin Mass. But Cardinal Erdő is also respected by liberals like the Holy Father, suggesting he could be a unifying force within the Church."

Cardinal Erdo is a traditionalist and conservative on moral values. He's also respected by liberal Cardinals, something that will be necessary for him to be elected to the Supreme Pontificate/Papacy. Things are looking good for his prospects. And now you have various sources report he's the number 1 candidate to succeed Pope Francis as Peter.

That Cardinal Erdo becomes Pope (Peter II/Pius XIII?) is the worst fear of liberal anti-TLMers. It should be an explicit prayer petition for all faithful Catholics who love the TLM and want to remain in the Church. God's will be done.

  • Is Erdo going to condemn/expuge V2, the Conciliar Antipopes, the New Mass, condemn the myriad heresies out there?  Hardly.

Nothing will be "over for the liberals".

No ACTUAL "traditionalist" could ever be "respected by" the likes of Jorge Bergoglio.  You're also perverse in calling Bergoglio et al. "liberals" when they're open heretics.

Get off this Traditional Catholic forum.  You don't belong here.  You've been banned repeatedly.

  • He'll probably be the guy to institute the hybrid (good 'nuff) mass and abolish the true TLM forever ( In the Consiliar/Indult)
It's a way to invalidate everything while appearing "sensitive" to the needs of the neo-trads.

It's what the NO wanted for a long time,or at least since Ratzinger.

  • The only reason why Erdő should be Pope is because hearing non-Hungarian speakers try and figure it out would be very funny. It's a weird language.
