I remember hearing, somewhere, some time back, that the Communist-approved church did not go along with the changes following Vat 2, and being under govt watch dogs they did not "adapt".
Yes. When the N.O. came out, the underground Church in China followed Rome. The Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association, however, refused to implement it unless they did the translation. That took time, so the CPCA churches had the Latin mass until at least the late 1970s, and it is still in some churches, mostly in Beijing.
When they did implement the N.O. they avoided one of the more distracting N.O. elements - the "handshake of peace". In China, they bow to each other.
