Obscurus,

Thanks for your help. But what I need to know is if this Grosvold is a 'real' bishop or pretends to be one.

In this way, I can see how to handle the situation lest some deluded Catholics join his church.

Well, if his line is Old Catholic then he is almost certainly a validly consecrated bishop.

Not according to an independent priest who advised me. He said Old Catholic consecrations are questionable because the consecrators did not use the proper rites.

Do an internet search on names like Arnold Mathew, Landes Berges, Vilatte, and Carfora and you'll appreciate just how questionable those guys could be. At the end of his life, Mathew unsuccessfully tried to get back into the Roman Catholic church and eventually died as an Anglican layman. Landes Berges and Vilatte give every indication of being con men, and Vilatte appears to have changed his beliefs more frequently than his underwear.

And years back, when I attended a lecture by the Theosophical Society as a seeker, they told me they were "Catholics" -- probably because of the connection between their occultist society and the loopy Liberal Catholic Church, which also got its bishops from the Old Catholics.

My former bishop? Francis Schuckardt was another guy who got ordained and consecrated by an Old Catholic bishop?, who later repudiated the Schuckardt movement as a personality cult. Lots of questionable fruit came from the Old Catholics. Caveat emptor.

It is my understanding as well that the Old Catholics no longer have valid clergy or they are at best questionable because they perverted the rite at one time.  I don't know what they do today, but if the line was broken, it really doesn't matter now.

I also note that the Old Catholics ordain women.
For an example, see http://www.heartlandoldcatholic.org/parishes.htm#spirit_of_hope

This cannot be a good sign.  In fact, Old Catholic priestesses are confirmed by the Catholic News Agency in an article entitled, "Pope Francis reaches out to Old Catholic Church".
http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/pope-francis-reaches-out-to-schismatic-old-catholic-church-28251/

If this fellow is of the Old Catholics, I wouldn't be anywhere near him.

Since then, this "Archbishop" Grosvold has died, without coming to Malta, apparently.

There still remains the website online but it's a hotch potch of things. It seems that a new organisation is taking over, linked to heretical teachings.
