I think this is a perfect illustration why conservative cardinals are not and will not be able to effectively defend the Catholic teaching. They fight the symptoms of the disease (pushes towards Communion for divorced and 'remarried', acceptance of sodomy etc.), but they will not acknowledge the root of the disease and the disease itself - Vatican II and modernism. Cardinal Burke ''opened the Dialogos Institute Colloquium on the proper interpretation of Vatican II’s Declaration on religious liberty, Dignitatis Humanae'', while the declaration itself must be rejected and must go to the dustbin of history, as well as whole Vatican II. But the conservative cardinals, even though they will defend Church's teaching in this or that area, will never dare to question Vatican II itself.

  • I'm glad you brought this up, Arvinger. The conservatives in the Novus Ordo still do not get it. They still try to fuse two opposites, the Catholic faith and Vatican II. Any philosophy or theology that formed outside the teaching and guidance of the Catholic Church is always going to be deficient. That's the thing that most Catholics today do not comprehend. The modern world is not your friend.

  • Indeed, symptoms are only being treated and not the disease. They try to put "band aids" on the problems but do not think more deeply and look at what has happened before to lead to our crisis today. Historicism and relativism is still something prevalent in the minds of Churchmen who do not see that they follow the very same modernism that St. Pius X condemned.
