  • Even though the SSPX has over 700 priests right now, has the rate of ordinations changed?

Whar about in comparison to indult, Resistance, and sedevacantist groups?

    Unofficial.
Sorry, this not about ordinations exactly, but about the record number of seminarians. You do the math...
    ********************
"...On October 31, 2024, the feast of St. Wolfgang, patron saint of the diocese of Regensburg where the Zaitzkofen seminary is located, the inauguration of a new building took place at the Herz Jesu seminary. This Wolfgangianum had become necessary. While most diocesan seminaries in Germany are empty and deserted, the seminary of the Society of Saint Pius X is full to bursting.

Since the arrival of the new registrants at the beginning of the month, the total number of seminarians has increased to 53, a new record in the history of the seminary! And after long weeks of vita communis in a confined space, each seminarian will be able to have his own room."

Of course Goo gle trans had to insert" his or her room".

  • I would expect fluctuating numbers as society degenerates in the modern world, and as good traditional families start releasing well formed young men. Also, the increasing size in the Vatican II friendly and indult groups should be considered as a competing factor.

  • Any accounting of SSPX ordinations needs to include ALL the priests ordained over 50 years, including those who have departed the Society, often for the Novus Ordo, sometimes for sedevacantism or independent status, still other few for a return to the lay state.

Just focusing on the priests I saw get ordained over a few years, plus my time on CathInfo, I know of priest(s) in each of those categories.

  • The real question is how many are leaving out the back door.

It's too bad so many go back to the Novus Ordo.

Very true. Not via the back door, but in recent years, there have been a few who have become sedevacantist.

  • The seminary numbers are not that important, because they dismiss a lot of young men because they won't submit to blind obedience.

The present day SSPX has a worship of obedience and "graces of state" of the superiors. It is very far from anything traditional, and they demand it from their seminarians and priests.

They will fire even their most valuable priests if they don't submit to it. The Bp. Williamson case (may he rest in peace) is the most scandalizing and visible example, but there are many others.

He may have left before your days at Winona, but the Vice Rector from my days returned to the lay state.

  • There were 12 in my class at St. Thomas Aquinas in 1994, and one was ordained.  Frs. Jorge A. and Ron Gagnon were ordained, but they were  not part of the original class. Fr. Christopher Darby (requiescat in pace) was ordained from the original class.
