A Spanish holy man has come under fire for saying a drag queen who performed as the Virgin Mary and Jesus upset him more than a plane crash that claimed 154 lives.
Francisco Cases, bishop of the Canary Islands, attacked the “blasphemous frivolity” of the act in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria — questioning the limit of freedom of expression, The Local reported.
“I am sometimes asked what have been the happiest and saddest days of my time in the Canary Islands […] and which day has been the saddest,” he said in a statement to local media, the El Pais newspaper reported.
“Until now I would reply: the day of the accident in Barajas involving the plane bound for Gran Canaria. From today, I will say that I am living the saddest day of my time in the Canaries.”
Cross-dressing artist Drag Sethlas, whose real name is Borja Casillas, performed as the Virgin Mary to Madonna’s hit “Like a Prayer” as the audience cheered.
Cases said he was disgusted by the act, for which Sethlas was crowned carnival queen after “thousands of people shouted encouragement, applauded and voted by phone.”
But he was assailed for saying the performance made him sadder than the Aug. 20, 2008, Spanair disaster at Madrid’s Barajas airport in which 154 were killed as they were headed to Las Palmas. Eighteen people survived.
Pilar Vera, head of the Spanair crash victims’ association who lost a niece in the tragedy, blasted the bishop.
“It wasn’t just 154 people who died —we are now dead in life, condemned to fight a system that has victimized us still further by denying us justice and truth, as well as wounding us with words like yours,” Vera said. “If you have forgotten the victims, then do so completely and avoid mentioning them.”
Sethlas said he never intended to “hurt anybody,” but admitted that he was looking to “generate controversy. I succeeded in that,” El Pais reported.
In a tweet, Las Palmas Mayor Augusto Hidalgo cited the carnival’s “transgressive” spirit — but said it also represented “tolerance.”
Cardinal Ricardo Blázquez, president of the Spanish bishop’s conference, acknowledged the right to freedom of expression, but said it was important to also respect people’s “religious sentiments.”
Meanwhile, Spain’s Association of Christian Lawyers called for the public prosecutor to investigate Sethlas for hate crime for insulting religious beliefs, The Local reported.

People die everyday. The news covers events like the plane crash and the next moment the presenter is on to another topic, and usually smiling and laughing might I add.

Life is short, the only true is evil is sin.

Justice and truth are first owed to God and then to man, although they are legion who would place the 2nd great commandment ahead of the first, and bury the latter.

ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ perverts have the potential of being very violent and vindictive. That's why they have been subject to capital punishment in ages past, in order to protect society from their amorality disease which they cannot but spread with zeal that consumes them.

They won't rest until their foul agenda is pushed to the extreme, which ultimately becomes this: the making of law, or at least de-facto practice, of condemning to death anyone who opposes their ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ perversion.

So, like I said, Bishop Cases could end up being martyred for this.

In the meantime the Canary Islands could end up being the testing ground for someone's stray nuke.
