An official canonical statement from the ROCOR Eastern American Diocese confirmed that Kapner did receive a legitimate monastic tonsure as a Rassophore monk (a lower, preparatory rank of monasticism) under the late Metropolitan Hilarion. This granted him the right to wear the black robes and the kamilavka / klobuk headdress. Prior to this, he had spent years spending time in and out of different monasteries and operating as an unblessed novice.

He was in fact accepted as an official Rassophore monk (some lower rank monk) that nevertheless entitled him to wear the black and the kamilkava headdress.  Even the Orthodox wouldn't let just anyone dress up that way.

Interesting that the PDF statement distanced themselves from his political views, saying they accept anyone seeking salvation despite their political views ... which is what the SSPX could to to get that separation, and they could even troll the Vatican by claiming that they can't do anything, since they have no authority over him due to being excommunicated.

Now, to be a truly "real" brother, you'd have to be Catholic, but that's not the slander you were making.
