  • Who would applaud such a statement? Bravo, Holy Father.

It should be added that the bishops should limit their participation in these seminars, meetings etc ... taking place outside their dioceses.

But the same should be recommended to our ministers who go to the left and right all week. I find this ridiculous and harmful. Ministers occupy little of their departments and are still represented surrounded by a pack of reporters waiting for the right words ....

If he can do the Holy Father must choose bishops field, out small circles of friends .

Pope denounces the "scandal" of bishops who spend their time traveling

He nicknamed the "airport bishops", and does not in his heart. François Pope denounced Thursday, September 19, the "scandal" of these bishops, instead of staying close to their faithful spend their time traveling from one airport to another.

"Reside [in the diocese] is not only required for the proper organization, but a theological root. You are married to your community, deeply connected to it. I ask you, please, stay in the middle your people. Stay, stay! Avoid scandal be bishops airport, "he told the Argentine Pope to the bishops of the Middle East, two Syrians, gathered for a conference by the Congregation for the churches Eastern.

    "Do not look for promotions"

"At the time of the internet where relationships are marked by rapid" must "stay in his diocese without seeking changes and promotions," noted the Pope, which attaches great importance to its own role as Bishop of Rome and do not like to travel.

The sketch of a good Catholic bishop must be one of "austerity and essentiality," said he added, citing again careerism and "psychology of princes" of some of them.

He also stressed once again the need for bishops to be constantly aware of their clergy and difficulties as he tried to make himself as much as possible when he was archbishop of Buenos Aires.

How many of you live where this is the case. Does the bishop live in the diocese? Or does he spend most of his time going from here to there?

I have lived in many different locations in the United States and overseas during my life.  I have never seen a Conciliar bishop who traveled, other than throughout his own diocese/archdiocese much.  Most of the time they traveled it was announced that they traveled to adjoining dioceses to assist in confirmations (and, I presume, ordinations).  They've also traveled to Rome for their required visits or to the national bishops' conference meetings.  But most of their time was always spent at home.

In the past 30 years or so, the only Conciliar bishop I've seen practically "live at the airport" has been the so-called "Bishop of Rome".

Perhaps the places I've lived have been the exception.

The bishop of my diocese certainly travels around!  But most are not Timothy Cardinal Dolan.
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

  • I'm still trying to deal with the conceptuality of essentiality.
