I read in the history of the catholic church by james hitchcock that after the council -
"like many of the council fathers, after they returned to their dioceses, seemed themselves uncertain as to what had been intended(by the council). Bishop sheen supported the most liberal of his priests and stated on television that the church might now permit contraception. Caught in the post conciliar crossfire, he soon resigned from his see".
This book is published by ignatius press, which is a conservative novus ordo pubisher. I don't think it is associated with TLM, so it is basically just novus ordo. Yet, it has this in there about Fulton Sheen. I have read the entirety of this history book, and it is good enough. The format is very good, and I found it very readable, so I do like the book all things considered. But, I had never heard this about bishop sheen. If anyone has any information about this, I would like to hear it. Because, again, this church history book is good enough all things considered, and I am in inclined to take the author at his word here.
