The short answer is that is seems completely ludicrous that Ratzinger would speak about all the unauthorized harm done to souls in the name of Vatican II, which had as a keystone the ad hoc Pauline Rite, and then conclude by insisting, absolutely insisting, that the same Protestant rite be consider the one and only normative rite for Roman Protestantism, and that the Holy Mass be considered exceptional, and at best allowed to be said only once on Sunday, in contrast to the new service which can be given many times.

It's like saying that the houseboat is sinking because repairs were not a priority and those who shouldn't have been at the party flooded into the party, but to then conclude that the norm, here, is that we have parties and repairs are just not a priority. Glug-glug, down she goes.

He is happy with it, imo - and I would take that as a problem if I were in the SSPX 'camp' (for lack of a better word).

Despite Williamson and others seeming to give full support to Fellay, and despite the way it went with the last election - you have to figure the SSPX is on the verge of splitting. And I hope they do soon. I would like to see the Catholic faction join up with the SSPV. If those who split give up supporting various aspects of Roman Protestantism, then there's nothing to keep them apart. And both would be stronger as a result, and more parishes would then come under a single order. Good things could really begin to happen, not that they aren't now.

I'm hopeful.
