  • Not yet. My reasons:

Other books are more important. Too long. His words favorable to sedevacantism removed if I remember correctly.

I think it is likely a good book and will maybe read it in the future.

  • I hear it's great, but it's out of our budget for now. When used copies become available I will buy it.

  • I have read it twice, and I think that it is a great book.

It is obviously a semi-official SSPX biography, so, obviously, some inconvenient ideas and quotes are left out, but, as a biography, it is a great work.

My favorite part is from his youth until right before the council. It shows how great Abp. Lefebvre was as a "regular" churchman, and not as a reactionary.

His life before the council is little know, and I think that it is the best that this book has to offer. We all know what he did from the 60s on, but most people know only that he was a missionary in Africa before that.

He was a truly great missionary, and had a significant contribution to Senegalian politics and society in general.

  • I'm surprised that there are even five forum members who have read +ABL's biography. Why would they? There is so little support for +ABL's views here.

"It is licit to resist a Sovereign Pontiff who is trying to destroy the Church. I say it is licit to resist him in not following his orders and in preventing the execution of his will. It is not licit to Judge him, to punish him, or to depose him, for these are acts proper to a superior."

  • The original French edition was published by Clovis in October/2002.

    M. Madiran informs us that the book took "several years" to complete.

Presuming "several" implies at least 4 years, it means Msgr. de Mallerais began the work no later than 1998.

It therefore has the merit of having been written before the 2000 FSSPX pilgrimage to Rome, in which the Fraternity signalled it's willingness to join the conciliar church and began collaborating with Msgr. Castrillon de Hoyos toward that end (which pre-empts concerns that the book's contents were tailored toward that end, as was the case with the movie about Msgr. Lefebvre).

Since I do not know the exact date on which Msgr. de Mallerais began working on the book, I cannot say whether the commencement also predates the FSSPX's 1997 private collaboration with l'GREC.

This slight concern aside, the book certainly accomplishes what a biography should (imparting a deeper knowledge of Msgr. Lefebvre to the world).

If one combines the Biography with M. Davies' Apologia Pro Marcel Lefebvre, he will have a very good understanding of Msgr. Lefebvre.
    Noblesse oblige.

True.  SSPX issues aside, the book shows the history and character of +Lefebvre very nicely.
