Padre Pio was poisoned by drugs being prescribed by doctors: See bottom of page 2 and top of page 3.

... Everyone saw that Padre Pio was declining day to day. He could no longer go down in the refectory, no longer move his legs, he was subject to gagging. In the last years of the

life of Padre Pio, there were several Capuchins assigned to him: Father Eusebio, Father Onorato, Father Alessio, Father Pellegrino. These religious agreed in affirming that Padre Pio was being poisoned by medicines. Padre Pio has been “stuffed” with sleeping pills and barbiturates that, in addition to destroying his health, numbed his mental faculties. The Medical Director of the House of Relief of Suffering, Professor Giuseppe Gusso,a man of integrity and most devoted to Padre Pio, said that «Some doctors in favor of Padre Pio, without the friars knowing it, have analyzed some of Padre Pio’s urine in the laboratory of the Clinic. The Father has a remarkable physique: traces of barbiturates have been found that would have killed a horse in three days.»

One day Padre Pio told Enzo Bertani, the treasurer of the House of relief, who had come to visit him: «Take that bottle of pills and throw it away, before the nurse arrives.»   ...

    Lord have mercy.

  • While the title makes it sound like it could have been a deliberate assassination, this sounds more like medical incompetence ... which also appears to have plagued a number of Popes.

  • Ladi, you can't have read the docuмent By Dr Franco Adessa. This had nothing to do with medical incompetence. His death was brought on by deliberate poisoning. Saint Pio knew he was being poisoned and said so.

He was a real nuisance to Church authorities and had to be gotten rid of.

I did read it, and I'm not seeing any proof of this in it, mostly speculation, even if it's rather plausible.

  • It seems here that if certain personages happen to die it must always certainly be murder, no doubt committed by some “deep state”, “illuminati”, or other such nefarious and nebulous force, regardless of how old they were.

Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, O.F.M. Cap. died on September 23, 1968 at the age of 81 years, 4 month, and 2 days.

I couldn’t find the “average age at death by year” for individual countries in a hurry … the data is out there, I just don’t have time to do the research.  However, useful extrapolation can be made from “life expectancy” data, which is the average number of years a person born in a certain year could be expected to live.

2015 աօʀʟd ɦɛaʟtɦ օʀɢaռiʐatɨօռ life expectancy for a male born in Italy is 80.5 years (ranked 6th in the world).  For interesting comparison, for a male born in the U.S. it is 76.9 (ranked 32nd. In the world).

No matter how one slices and dices the numbers, St. Pio was ahead of the curve in terms of age at death.

Another interesting, though unrelated, thought occurs to me, as it is often asked if St. Pio said the “new Mass”.  The Roman Missal often refered to as the Novus Ordo was promulgated on April 3, 1969, with the provision that it was to go into effect on November 30 of the same year, the First Sunday of Advent.  St. Pio died on September 23, 1968.

Yes, but I do know that he had to offer the Traditional Mass facing the people and observing some of the updated rubrics.  I do not know for sure whether he used that truncated intermediate Paul VI liturgy or the straight Traditional Mass.  He certainly could not have said the full modern-day NOM.
