We know that Jesus is the lion of Judah. We are told this in Apocalypse 5:5: “And one of the ancients said to me: Weep not; behold the lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.”
Matthew in 1:1-16 confirms this by giving the genealogy of Jesus: “The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham: Abraham begot Isaac. And Isaac begot Jacob. And Jacob begot Judah and his brethren. . . And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.”
Why does the Douay-Rheims translation of Matt 1:2 now say: “Abraham begot Isaac. And Isaac begot Jacob. And Jacob begot Judas and his brethren”?
