  • As seen on CAF, posted by a Franciscan brother (who apparently has inordinate amounts of time to write posts).

I have to marvel at this...

What would be the Traditional response? Where does one even begin?

    Quote
A parish gets from Life Teen what it invests. One of our brothers works at the local parish with their Life Teen Ministry. They have a wonderful ministry. Let me give you some examples.

    1. They have 30 adults who are trained in youth ministry and work with the kids.

    2. Sunday mass with 800+ teens and their families

    3. Benediction and adoration every Thursday night, about 150 kids attend

    4. Rosary Crusade in October

    5. Over 40 kids who go to Washington each year for the March for Life

    6. Annual Summer Camp for Catholic kids

    7. Weekly meeting with: fellowship, bible study, and prayer

    8. Two annual retreats for teens

    9. Teens run retreat for middle schoolers

10.Teans run the parish pantry, which they keep stocked

11.Monthly Rosay for Life lead by teens

12.Teens helped pay part of the mortgage for the pre-school by raising several thousand dollars last year

13.Teens attending daily mass, communion and confessions

    14. Four teens joining our community this October 4

    15. Teens help run the annual parish carnival to raise funds to pay for a new church that they need

    16. Teens celebrate the Solemnity of St. Francis each year with great reverence for our Holy Father

    17. Weekly classes in Catholic dogma for teens attended by 40-50 teens

    18. Teens organize an annual toy drive for poor kids in the diocese

    19. Teens attending Chastity Days run by the Brothers of Life and taking the oath: Wait Until Marriage

    20. Teens who love the Franciscan spirit and welcome the Franciscan Brothers of Life with great enthusiasm when the brothers go to the parish to lead Franciscan study nights

    21. Parents who had not been in church for ages are returning with their teens.

    22. Teens who founded a Youth for Life Organization at the local public school

    23. Four times a year the teens run a cook-out to bring other teens to the parish

    24. Full-time paid Life Teen coordinator available 7-days a week, one Franciscan Brother 3-days a week, one full-time priest, five Franciscan brothers twice a week and the lay volunteers (most are parents).

But to make all of this happen it takes a lot of adults who are committed Catholics that spend time in prayer together and with the teens and who are willing to go through the formation program. If the adults don't do the work, it will turn into another social group and will not bear much fruit. Life Teen has a lot of good material and a lot of good study programs for kids and for adults who don't know their faith. Check out their website.

  • Isn't this the organization ("Life Teen") whose head priest got the boot for some such immoral thing or another?

  • A great response in my opinion would be for any NO service, no grace since it is worship of self instead of God.
    Please pray for my soul.

  • Please understand I am not advocating for the Novus Ordo Mass, but I don't think we can say there is no grace whatsoever for those who attend the Novus Ordo, oftentimes out of necessity. How can we ourselves measure grace?

Many of us at some point received enough grace to start going to a traditional Latin Mass. But where did we receive this grace?

For instance, I know a very frail, elderly woman who (IMHO) is a living saint. But she is unable to always get to a Latin Mass, as she depends upon others to take her there.

  • I believe that NO people do receive some grace from a true devotion to Our Lady, through the scapular and the rosary, devotions to the passion of Christ, stations of the Cross, but not the NO service.  Sorry if you don't agree, since it is self worship it doesn't make sense that grace is there.

Which is probably why Our Lady said, someday the world will be saved through the rosary and scapular, she didn't say the Mass and Sacraments, knowing they would be eclipsed.
    Please pray for my soul.

  • Myrna,

We can't see grace, we can't measure grace and we don't know how grace is operating in any individual's soul, and we can't measure how anyone, or even ourselves, responds to grace.

It is probably true, all things being equal, the Latin Mass offers more grace than the Novus Ordo Mass. But in the real world things aren't equal.

If you were sick, would you go to Lourdes, or would you not go to Lourdes because it's not a sedevacantist Mass site?

Lourdes is an approved appirition of Our Lady.  Our Lady does the healing at the shrine.  The NO service is offered there unfortunately, but has nothing to do with Lourdes.
If the words of consecration are changed at the Novus ordo service, transubstiation does not take place.  Therefore, the bread and wine are not changed into the Body and Blood of Christ.
Any one who witnesses this service commits IDOLATRY  (adoring a piece of bread, which is what they call it there).  Just like the Isrealites did that adored the Golden Calf.  The piece of bread is NOT God!
    Idolatry is a mortal sin.
No grace comes from committing mortal sin.
Now that you know this, YOU ,Mousey , and you other Novus Ordos on here ,commit mortal sin by attending these services and worshipping a piece of bread!

No, Mousey, I meant it to be instructive.  Im tired (after 40 years away from the Novus Ordo) to meet people that try to equate this Masonic service with the MASS.
I wanted to let you know that all things ARE NOT EQUAL between the NO travesty, and the True Mass.  It does NOT offer any grace, it is a mockery of God
    .

  • Emerentiana,

My post is not a plug for the Novus Ordo. But I need to respond to you because you are deciding the Novus Ordo Mass is invalid and has zero grace. The problem, though, is that the Latin Mass is not widely available. Should people who have difficulty getting to a Latin Mass (age, illness, distance, spouse that doesn't want to go, etc.) just stay home?

You need to be very sure about your position, because if you're wrong, you're encouraging others to commit a mortal sin.

  • Although I don't believe people should stay home when there is an altar where the Blessed Sacrament IS.

However, if there is no such altar within a resonable distance, then a person would receive more grace to stay home and pray their 15 decade rosary.
Jesus Christ founded one Church, and it was not the Anglican or Protestant Church, it was the Catholic church, and the NO is not it.  They may have our buildings, relics, art but they do not have the same Faith.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever, and that is how I know the NO is not Catholic.  Catholic is a Divine Institution, not your neighborhood social Country Club, where things can change with a whim.

It is true that only God can judge or look into a persons soul, to see their grace, but He also gave us His teachings.
    Please pray for my soul.

Positive about my position, Mousey.  If there were no mass, would you attend a protestant service?  The Novus Ordo is the same as protestant.  We cant equate the mass of Our Fathers,  the timeless mass said for all generations by validly ordained priests,  with the pagan, Masonic Novus Ordo.  You have no obligation to go to that service.  Im sure many of the members of the forum will back me up on this.
This book  was one of the first to be published on the new Mass.  You can probably get it on Amazon.com.  You can  view its contents on this link

Emerentiana is correct to a point.  The problem is that he (or is it she?) doesn't go far enough.  One may not go to an Orthodox Divine Liturgy to satisfy the obligation to keep holy the Lord's Day either, even though they have undoubtably valid sacraments.  The Real Presence on the Altar is not the only issue here.

At some time in the future, it is possible that the Conciliar, English speaking Church may really start using a valid form for the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.  But, while there are Catholics who still go to the Conciliar Church in ignorance (ignorance, not of the faith but rather what the Conciliar Church teaches), that religious "tradition" is not Catholic.  One who knows that every single Conciliar bishop teaches heresy (take one simple example:  "ecuмenism") is bound to avoid his ministers.

The problem is so wide-spread today that anyone who seriously studies the faith can no longer assume the good will of Conciliar priests and bishops (this includes the so-called Indult Communities).  A bishop must prove he is Catholic.
