Fr. Barbara On Abp. Thuc and Einsicht Magazine: 1982
From the May 1982 Issue of Einsicht : An Exerpt From Fr. Barbara's Periodical
(from: "Supplement to Issue No. 19, Year 1982, *Fortes in Fide*")

"BLESSED ARE THE PURE IN HEART!"
Fr. Barbara writes:

"The latest issue of the magazine *Einsicht* brings the new schismatic consecrations of two Mexican priests and the French Dominican Guérard des Lauriers fully to light. Furthermore, it publishes a declaration attributed to the person directly responsible for this scandal—the Vietnamese Archbishop Ngô-Dinh-Thuc, well known since the Palmar de Troya affair. (...) This summary declaration represents a grave distortion of the truth. (...) In secret, he has consecrated—or occasionally re-consecrated—various individuals, such as Arbinet, Garcia, Miguet, and Schaeffer, to name but a few. (...) By making use of Bishop Thuc, the leadership of *Einsicht* commits, first and foremost, a grave offense against the unity of the Church. This new development highlights the full extent of their culpability; for by availing themselves of Ngô-Dinh-Thuc’s material generosity and brazenly exploiting his advanced age, they have secured his signature on a statement and continue to manipulate him. Their goal appears to be to secure—at any cost—bishops who are dependent on them. (...) The responsibility borne by the people at *Einsicht* in this entire affair is damning, for it is they who have pushed these various individuals onto the path of schismatic folly. These are the people who have consistently indulged in propagating aberrant, heretical theses (...). These are also the people who claim they will restore the Church by invoking wretched schismatics!" (...) Blessed are the pure in heart!"

Einsicht: Naturally, without comment!

This is an in-depth French analysis of the Father Barbara's attack of Archbishop Thuc

If you use a playback speed of (1) and Auto-translate English, it's pretty easy to follow.

Fr. Barbara Refutation in French

Father Barbara was eventually made to realize he was guilty of Donatism*

In conclusion, according to the Epikieia ethics principle, that a law can be broken to achieve a greater good, Archbishop Thuc comes out having made Consecrations that were both valid and lawful

* Donatists argued that Christian clergy must be faultless for their ministry to be effective and their prayers and sacraments to be valid.

From Fr. Barbara in 1984: Burning Questions- Straight Answers

WHAT ARE WE TO THINK OF THE BISHOPS CONSECRATED BY NGO DINH
THUC, CARMONA, VEZELIS, MUSEY ETC.?

"By his flaunted contempt for the laws of the Church, his
simulated repentance followed by frequent lapses and his
compromises with a-Catholic sects, Pierre Martin NGO DINH THUC
is a scandalous bishop.

Was this old man, over 85 years of age, in possession of his
faculties, did he realize what he was doing in imposing his
hands so easily on no matter whom? Was he truly responsible
for his acts? There are only three possible answers to this
distressing question.

- No. Thuc was not in possession of all his faculties; he
was not responsible and did not incur the penalties provided by
the Law. But then the consecrations conferred are not valid,
since the consecrator was not in possession of his faculties
for the performance of a responsible act.

- Yes. The consecrator at these consecrations was in full
possession of his faculties. The consecrations are valid but
consecrator and consecrated have incurred all the penalties
provided by the Law and Thuc is truly a scandalous bishop.

- We do not know with certainty. Perhaps he was in
possession of his faculties, and perhaps he was not. That
would leave a doubt hovering over the censures incurred, but
also over the validity of all these ordinations.

Consecrated by a scandalous, suspended, excommunicated and
schismatic bishop, Father Guerard and the abbes Carmona and
Zamora are themselves suspended and excommunicated. Also
excommunicated are all the priests who assisted at their
consecration. Furthermore, since these censures have not been
lifted, after one year they are in addition suspect of heresy
and schism."

Persto: This excerpt is from a pamphlet called Burning Questions, Straight Answers by Fr. Barbara in 1984, the year that Abp. Thuc died-  so you can see that his attack on Abp. Thuc and his Episcopal lineage of consecrands continued right up to the death of Abp. Thuc.

October, 1983
FALSE BISHOPS AND TRUE BISHOPS by H.E. Bishop Adolphus Zamora H. (Partial Excerpt)

Jєωιѕн ATTACK ON CATHOLIC BISHOPS
"Three months after Monsignor Thuc consecrated his first three legitimate successors, Father Barbará, of Jєωιѕн-French origin, started to attack Monsignor Thuc and his bishops calling them "schismatic" who should be thoroughly rejected. The attack was made publicly from his monthly magazine (Fortes In Fide), where Le Monde of Paris took notice and news agencies (in Jєωιѕн hands, as other information media) made the news fly, certainly sensational, but false. That is how this was spread to the Mexico City daily newspapers, such as La Prensa, El Universal, and Excélsior, where many read not only lies but also other similar agenda.

The worst consequence was not that the progressive clergy had believed to the letter the falsity, but that even priests considered as "traditionalists" had believed the barbaric slander.

Father Barbará that presumes to be a "traditionalist" with his slanders has become a public detractor and slanderer of Catholic bishops and a good collaborator of the progressive ones and their blood equals, the Jєωιѕн."
