So, he has a home.
Then sells it to the Church for 1.9 million dollars and the source of the money comes from the estate. The property he sold is then used to house priests of the diocese.
Then he knocks down the home from the estate and builds the 2.2 million dollar mansion.
It could be an embezzlement more than simply a mistake in judgment.
The primary factor would be how much the property he ordered the Church to buy from him is actually valued at.
However, I don't buy into the "using money for charity" deal.
The Church has riches and we can invest it in art and architecture if we so desire and that is a good thing after all, Jesus told Judas that we would always have the poor so put him first.
After the US govt the Church is the largest provider of social services in the USA , in the world it is the number one provider.
