Some Catholic interpreters of the Apocalypse place the Second Coming and end of the world many centuries after the period of the Antichrist. According to their interpretation, after the Antichrist reigns and is defeated, the Church will rise to a glory never seen before. Then after many centuries, the whole world will eventually lose the faith (again), and the Second Coming and conflagration will occur without any events or indications immediately preceding it. Fr. Sylvester Berry (The Apocalypse of St. John, 1921) and Fr. Herman Kramer (The Book of Destiny, 1955) both give this interpretation.
Whether that's how it will actually be, no one can really say. But it seems like a well-founded interpretation, and it's encouraging to think that if we live through the time of the Antichrist, we will see the Church reign in Her greatest glory on Earth.
