  • I was listening to an audio sancto sermon about the apparitions of Our Lady to Bruno Cornacchiola in 1947 which led to his conversion from Seventh Day Adventism back to the Catholic Faith. It sounded interesting and I started looking for more info online. I figured if Bruno conversed with Our Lady in 1947 maybe there was some talk about the crisis in the Church and Vatican II which was right around the corner back then. It seems there was a personal message to Pope Pius XII.... and then this comment from the author:

"...a definitive judgement, either positive or negative in regard of Tre Fontane, has not been made.

This is probably due, at least in part, to the character of Bruno Cornacchiola; it seems that he went on to claim a total of 28 further apparitions by 1986, with messages which became increasingly apocalyptic in tone, including predictions of various evils which have not materialized. It also seems that he has not been completely truthful in his biography. This is like the tragic history of Mélanie at La Salette; her initial experience was trustworthy, but she allowed events to go to her head in later years."

Does anyone know what these other messages supposedly were about? I can't find anything online other than the original account.

  • Goose, yes, I do.  Let me go dig it out as I am sure that I know where I put the magazine that it was in.

I found it quick enough to add this as an edit.  It appears that Bruno was against (and rightly so) receiving Holy Communion in the hand.  And, he said that Our Lady allegedly said the following:

"Through the fault of many men, the Church will become a place of meetings and chattering, and not a place of elevation of the Spirit.

  • I don't know about him being a Seventh Day, but I do know that he was a staunch Communist and a would-be assassin of Pope Pius XII.

  • The issues about Melanie's reliability may have been a smear campaign due to the content of the messages.

I think eclipseofthechurch.com has details explaining the controversy.

  • As an aside to the legitimacy or illegitimacy of the apparitions:

Reportedly in 1997 JP II (who was hell-bent on changing everything he could) renamed the place as "Holy Mary of Third Millennium at Three Fountains".

Thanks for digging that up but I can't help but think that there is more to it than just going against communion in the hand.
