  • For starters, their very elections  are Highly Suspect. See McNutt-- Papal Chamberlain

Also see Boase and Tosti- bio's of Boniface.

  • Upon a reread of Boase, a need for a correction is evident. I may have stated in the past that the Bull Unam Sanctam was 'gutted' by Clem V. I have never had any prob with the Bull itself but none the less it may not have been altered.

The 2 Bulls of Boniface re: Philip that have Have Been altered by popes Benedict and Clement are Clericis laicos and Ausculta Fili

My apologies. This does not preclude the possibility however that there is yet another source in the matter.

  • Boase does go on to state that Pope Clement 'erased many offensive passages from the papal registers'.

  • It should also be noted that Unam Sanctam does not mention France or Philip specifically.

Are you referring to Philip II that William Thomas Walsh wrote the book about?

Was Unam Sanctam supposed to be written with him and France in mind?

  • Nice try Belloc but unlike CM, I have never had the audacity to call Leo XIII, Pius X, Pius XI(XII), or Pius XII(XIII) anti-popes.

The Philip referred to above is the grandson of St Louis-- Philip IV of France. There is no mention of France or Philip in Unam Sanctam

Benedict XV being on that list is highly debatable. Boniface VIII is somewhat debatable as well. I do believe Paul VI was PROBABLY an anti-pope, JPII and John XXIII may have been as well.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.
