  • How about some Hans Kung for good measure and balance?  LOL - JK  :laugh2:

It is like the political "spectrum" in that there are NUTS on both ends (and some in the "middle", too, I should think).

Like Peter, Pope Augustine dresses in lay clothes.  Like Peter, Pope Augustine engages in a secular occupation to help support himself for now.  Like Peter in his time, Pope Augustine is hardly known to the world.

I'd LOVE to know what this man does for a living. Wouldn't it be funny if he worked at Wal-mart, a gas station, or something like that. It would be even funnier if he worked at a high-end occupation like an investment firm: "You don't understand, sir, I KNOW this stock is going to do well. It was divinely revealed to me while I was eating my Wheaties this morning."

Same with his "lay clothes" -- I can see it now: "The pope wears Levis", "The pope shops at Sears", etc. Whatever mainstream brand of clothing he wears, it would be funny to think of a pope wearing it.

  • Richard McBrien?

Actually, McBrien (Go Irish!) and Kung are much more "respectable" than 'Pope Augustine' - which is, in a way, kind of scarier.

Perhaps he is a consultant for AIG?

  • Yeah, maybe he worked in the finance industry, and recently found himself with a LOT more free time -- an involuntary vacation, if you will -- and so he has time now for this whole "pope" thing that he has been considering for years...
