  • I'm in a very annoying argument with a novus ordite trying to convince him that it's protestant in nature.  I mentioned that prayer in common with heretics had been formally anathematized, but now I'm unable to verify the source.  I find it all over the internet, the same quote, sometimes saying it was from the council of Carthage, sometimes saying it is can. 63 sometimes can. 64.  Which code of canon law would that be?  Can't locate a primary source.  Can anyone assist here?

    Thanks

  • Thanks Senza.  What about this one?  Is this a valid canon do you know?

If any clergyman or laic shall go into the ѕуηαgσgυє of the Jєωs, or the meetings of heretics, to join in prayer with them, let him be deposed, and deprived of communion

It is illicit for Catholics in any way to assist actively or take part in sacred worship of non-Catholics (c. 1258, §1). Passive or merely material presence, for the sake of civil courtesy, duty, or respect, for a grave reason which in case of doubt should have the approval of the Bishop may be tolerated, at the funerals, weddings, and other such celebrations of non-Catholics, provided there is no danger of perversion or of scandal (c. 1258, §2).

I haven't read all that is on the CMRI website, but it seems to be chockfull of great stuff.
