This calumny has been refuted…..see this CI thread:

TIA used sources from a freemason to support this lie against Venerable Pius IX. title=facepalm:facepalm: title=facepalm:facepalm: title=facepalm
Your point is well-taken and is par for the course for TIA. Their source for their calumny against Cardinal Newman was a pro-sodomite rag.

No calumny here. I always thought Pius lX was a holy Pope. I was talking about his pre-papacy status.

Hi Josefa, Sorry I wasn't clear. I was addressing the OP, who cited the notoriously unlrealiable TIA in attacking a good and holy Pope.

Pope Pius IX is on the short list of my greatest heroes!

He was a man of fearless courage, who defied the forces of darkness, despite standing alone and defenseless against them. He sacrificed everything for the sake of one soul, that poor little Mortara child, but he knew that one immortal soul is more precious than all of Christendom. And by the end of his long reign, and his life, he had lost not only the 1,000-year kingdom of the popes, but also the support of most of Christendom, had lost most everything he had in this world, but he had no regrets. Like he could care less what freemasons and Jews and liberal Catholics thought of him. What mattered to him was God, and nothing else.

Truly one of the greatest popes in 2,000 years. He didn't die a martyr, but he may as well have, and he came very close many times. His papacy will never be forgotten until the end of time.

If he is a Freemason, he would have incurred excommunication and would not have validly ascended the throne of Peter. Now that would be another can of worms to argue over.
