Why, may we ask, did he suddenly replace “munus” with “ministerio”? Why abandon the consistency of his narration? Likewise, why abruptly change from speaking of the “Petrine” ministry or “munus Petrinum,” to “ministerio Episcopi Romae,” “Bishop of Rome” instead?
Right, this is the essential argument, by many.  This explains why Francis said not to call him “pope” but “bishop of Rome”.

Personally, I really don’t care either way, but I can see the legal shell-game being played.  It’s the hallmark of the Modernists, just like the Pharisees back in the day.

Thanks everyone for this debate. It shows Catholic Info Forum is kind of a modern synod where Catholic problems and errors will get a proper open examination. After Vatican II we sure need such a Catholic washing-machine.

My own opinion is that none of us have the right to decide such questions as to whether a pope is pope or not. We will let God or a furure Council decide that. I do agree that whereas Benedict XVI was a traditionalist one day and a modernist the next, it was impossible for most to see that is the old type of modernist, Francis is a modernist one day and a super modernist the next leaving no one in doubt where the Catholic Church is today.
