"Why is that?"
« on: November 21, 2024, 08:31:12 AM »
For years many Catholics said ( including me) that Nancy Peℓσѕι, Joe Biden and other "Catholics" who support abortion either should be or already are excommunicated.

I'm not hearing a peep about excommunication re: JD Vance and his support for the abortion pill.

Why is that?

I think this is an understandable question, Josefa. I actually did question Vance's pro-life position as VP prior to the election here:

JD Vance vs Trump - page 1 - Politics and World Leaders - Catholic Info

After researching things (with the help of MarkM's posted articles), it looked like he was 100% pro-life without exception prior to being named on the ticket (he was even in support of a federal ban).  I left that thread wondering whether this was a temporary shift to help get him and Trump elected. It will be interesting to see what he says and does after he and Trump take office.

Given his pro-life history as a politician after converting, I don't think it would be fair to lump him in with the likes of Peℓσѕι or Biden.

Tell that to the babies dying by the pill.
All the more reason to appeal to his blatant hypocrisy. So he WAS pro-life and now he changed and that makes him exempt from excommunication?
All it shows is how insincere public "pro-life" Catholic media and the Church really are about the babies. If anyone would be affected by the threat of excommunication , it would be JD Vance who claims to be a serious Catholic. He needs to be pushed.

He explicitly said as much when speaking to a prolife group. He told them he was really on their side. Whether this was true or "politics" remains to be seen.

A question that has occurred to me with the recent political debates here is that with the Church, or what is supposed to be the Church, in its present disastrous condition, as a practical matter, why do we expect politicians to be holier than the Pope (or "Pope", if you prefer) ? I know such a question can degenerate into pure relativism, but aren't we asking the lesser (political realm) to be better than the greater (Ecclesial realm)?
