'Extreme' titles for our Lady

  • I have seen many titles of our Lady which have been called too far or extreme by some trads online. After reading this article I disagree with them and think when properly understood in Catholic context these titles are safe and pius.

    https://cognitioecclesiae.weebly.com/our-mother-is-the-co-redemptrix

    Such titles include;

    • Co-Redemptrix
    • Mediatrix
    • goddess of the universe (by grace and not by nature)
    • Salvatrix
    • Reparatrix
    • Dispensatrix
The above article provides sources from Saints and Popes so I don't see the issue, but I would like to hear what others think on these things.

  • I didn’t want to read the whole article, but I did browse it.

The only one I would take strong exception to is the third, “goddess of the Universe”. There is no way anyone may rightfully address Her as (a female) God.
Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

    Quote
Saint Lawrence of Brindisi, Mariale, Sermon 5: "Mary enjoys a similar dominion, for she has been invested with divine sovereignty and power and crowned goddess of the universe. As God said to Moses: I have appointed thee the God of Pharaoh, i.e. to exercise the same power over Pharaoh that God has over his kingdom, so God has set Mary over the works of His hands."
I can understand this title seems quite 'extreme' (hence the point of this thread) but considering Divinization, our Lady's grace and this statement comes from a canonised Saint it does have some truth to it.

    Quote
I have said: You are gods and all of you the sons of the most High.

    [Psalms 81:6]
Not 'God' (by nature) but 'gods' (by grace and partaking in the Divine Nature of God Himself)

  • Saints aren’t infallible. Certainly the quote from Psalm 81 should be taken in its proper conrext.
I have said: You are gods and all of you the sons of the most High. 7 But you like men shall die: and shall fall like one of the princes. 8 Arise, O God, judge thou the earth: for thou shalt inherit among all the nations.

Obviously the bolded part does not apply to Our Blessed Mother.

She is Queen of Angels and of men and of the Church.

In Revelations 12 she is identified as the Queen, crowned with 12 stars, representing the 12 tribes of Israel and the 12 Apostles. These represent the whole Church.

Can you quote any other saint who calls he a goddess? This the sort of title which protestants point to as idolatry.

I couldn't see any other quotes using that title in the article, only the one.

Yes, but one has to be very careful about these, especially the "goddess" and "Salvatrix" ones.  I disagree with, say, the Dimond Brothers, that Co-Redemptrix is inherently erroneous ... IF it's properly understood as being in a subordinate role.

  • Did you notice the difference between the Latin and the Italian in the prayer indulgenced by Pope Leo XIII?

That is actually a good definition of what the term "Co-Redemptrix" means.

  • But ... why are you on this site?  This guy has a Luciferian/Illuminati symbol on the main page of his website and is making a big deal about some obscure "Bishop Lucifer".  Stay away from this loser's site if you know what's good for you.

While the Italian used "Co-Redemptrix", the Latin has mundo redimendo coadiutrix ... coadjutor (helper) in redeeming the world.
