  • Dispensing Condoms is God’s Will, Says Contraceptive Activist at Catholic University

    by Matthew Archbold

The student in charge of an unrecognized and unofficial pro-contraceptive and pro-abortion rights student group at The Catholic University of America reportedly said she believes she’s “carrying out God’s will” by dispensing condoms and offering rides to students to Planned Parenthood “for any reason,” according to CNS News.

“We have learned from Catholic teachings the importance of caring for others and carrying out God’s will,” Callie Otto, of Catholic University Students for Choice, reportedly said at a Feminist Majority Foundation event last week. “And in that mindset, we will continue our mission to promote sɛҳuąƖ health and responsibility in our university community in the hopes that our university will end their war on women.”

Otto reportedly said this as she appeared on a panel with contraceptive celebrity Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke at an event dubbed “Bishops, Politicians, and the War on Women’s Health.”

And in one of the classic unintentional compliments ever given, Eleanor Smeal, founder and president of the Feminist Majority Foundation, praised Otto, saying, “It’s taken real courage to do this at Catholic University of America,” Smeal said. “It is not Georgetown.”

No, it is not. And thank goodness for that.

Otto also reportedly praised the help her group receives from high-profile pro-abortion groups like Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion organizations. “The support that we have gotten from NARAL Pro-Choice America, Feminist Majority Foundation and Planned Parenthood has been vital in our group’s existence,” Otto said. “They’ve provided condoms, they’ve been sending support for distributing those condoms and have given us opportunities to be active in events, such as phone banks, leadership conferences and rallies.”

Otto reportedly said she hopes to inspire others at CUA and other Catholic colleges to do the same thing.

CUA spokesperson Victor Nakas released a statement to The Cardinal Newman Society, saying:

We don’t know if Ms. Otto is being quoted accurately, but anyone – especially any Catholic – expressing such sentiments would be misguided about Catholic teaching and its proper application. It’s disappointing to learn that she is alleged to have said our University is waging a war on women. Nothing could be further from the truth. Catholic University is not waging war on anyone; we are simply trying to defend ourselves against an unprecedented attempt by the federal government to abridge our Constitutional religious freedom.

In speaking of Otto’s comments, the president of the Students for Life at CUA Mary Elizabeth Murphy said, “Those comments are controversial and create lots of media attention. It makes it look like it’s a big organization on campus, but it’s not even approved by the university.”

Murphy did say, however, that she had seen the organization once across the street from campus at the Metro station handing out condoms. She said a number of students took a large amount of condoms on purpose and later threw them in the trash.

Murphy said that 550 students from Catholic University marched in the March for Life and that every weekend a small group of pro-lifers pray and sidewalk counsel outside of a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic.

CUA President John Garvey has been one of the most outspoken and effective critics of the HHS contraceptive mandate.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

  • Feminism is in some ways stronger among Catholics than among the general population.

    It is incredibly sad.

  • The prophets of fornication are not satisfied with casting their own souls into perdition, but they attempt to drag others with them, as hell opens it's jaws to receive them and those whom they have perverted. The earth has been made unclean by their iniquity, and nature cries out against them. And to increase their temerity, they present their subversion of the natural order as 'virtue'. A diabolical mockery.

May God have mercy upon this miserable generation. The portals of salvation are still open to those who wish to repent and draw near. May all luciferian pride be extinguished by the charity of the humble and most Sacred Heart of Jesus, through the holy intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
