What's going on at LifeSite News?

  • I noticed they have another new staff photo on their "Contact Us" page, but I was shocked when I looked at the bottom of the page. Just the original founders and a couple of managers now, along with a bunch of journalists. They did away with the 9 "directors" they started a couple years ago.

Gualberto Garcia Jones, who came in like lightning (along with the position of Vice President, created just for him) seems to have left just as quickly! I saved off a few PDFs to show the progression.

And the Fideros -- both the mother and the son -- are both gone. What happened?

But here's the thing -- if you assume 2019 and 2020 constituted "normal" turnover, then they have experienced some massive turnover. Just look at all the new -- and missing -- faces in the latest picture, compared with the 2019 or even the early 2022 one!

And their superstar computer guy -- a Canadian man about 60, who was very competent, talented, organized, etc. is A) not in any of the recent pictures and B) no longer mentioned on the Contact page at all. He was "Web Development Director". I call him a "superstar" because that's how the upper management sees him. I don't mean to mock him, belittle him, or anything like that. But let's just say if he was hit by a bus, they'd be in major trouble.

NOTE: There was no annual, in-person company meeting in 2020 due to COVID. They kept the 2019 staff picture on their website until early 2022.

I know they got banned from Youtube, etc. and maybe that's affected their finances. I know they started bringing in lots of "Interns" in 2020; maybe they're relying more on these young people, who don't need as high a salary. To be fair, the founders at least seemed interested in paying a fair, Catholic, living wage to their employees. But that's the thing: a young single person doesn't "need" as much as a parent of a Catholic-sized family "open to life". So at least they're honest, in hiring what they can afford. Some businesses and corporations would rather get the older experienced personnel AND pay a lower wage.

I'm just curious what's going on with them. There seems to be some major drama I missed, and that makes me very curious. Especially since I used to work for them, and they are a major player in the conservative Catholic, Pro-Life, and Alternative Media spheres.

  • Didn’t they have a huge fancy party in Florida recently? It wasn’t.
a banquet at vfw or fire hall.

    And where’s the nun?

May God bless you and keep you

  • Everyone is being hit hard with financial hard times.  They can’t afford to donate.

And when people are going through tough times, they don’t want to see huge fancy parties in Florida when they lost jobs, homes, etc.

Pope and bishops still travel and party.  People are not donating.  It’s true, I read the local novus Ordo newspaper.

May God bless you and keep you
