  • Why do you need a fridge that can talk, text, drive and maybe copulate? It's a fridge.
The second Monday of October is Columbus Day, not Indigenous People's Day. Without Columbus discovering the Indies and giving them the True Faith, they would still be cannibals worshipping the Sun.

    Santo subito!

  • So they can know and control your every word and movement. They'll have the info when they need it. Most appliances and TV's now have this capability.

  • I remember when George Orwell's novel 1984 came out. At that time it was hard to imagine what the future may have held in store in regards to the novels discripition of the "telescreen," well, here we are folks...

  • My fridge isn't!  It's a small GE made in 1956.  I had the motor overhauled in 2000 and replaced the gasket last year.  It works fine.

  • I think the younger (20's) generation like these techie things.  I've heard that there are fridges that will keep your grocery list up to date and sync (?) it w/your smart phone.

There's also Alexa so you can speed order from Amazon from your big comfy couch :)
Talking Google Maps so you can be navigated to your destination without even knowing where you are.
Siri so you don't have to push a button on your smartphone.

    Anybody remember the movie Surrogates?

With good copper those motors will last a loooong time. We're being sold crap now, and being told it's pate.

We still have a vucuum from ~'48, and it still runs like a charm. I could destroy a modern car with it, but it endures.

They keep making the tech more like interacting with people...

... so does that mean we'll invent dumber phones to ignore the smart ones?

Maybe that will be the end, a bunch of phones ignoring each other at the charging station.

Happy you laugh miss/ma'am, but do you see the horrific irony?

We make our tech "like" people, but the more that we do, the more we discount actual, real people.

We anthropomorphize things (idols), and we dehumanize people, including if not esp. ourselves in doing so.

God makes us in his image.

    We fall.

    We make stuff in ours.

    We make our stuff god.

I think that we do the same thing to the dehumanized, once they're things of course.

    We are no exception.
