  • where the heck is the CLOUD ???

I do not understand the cloud at all.  What is it?  Where is it?  Who owns it?  Who uses it? Why use it?

Could someone explain this in mono-syllables for me?  I'm in first grade when it comes to computers

I like my computer, tablet, iThis, iThat but only so long as it works.  If it even so much as burps I'm prepared to take it to the local lake and drown it.

  • There are more than one.

Simply put, traditionally data was stored "locally" on a device. When you use the cloud, the data is stored also on off-premise servers (could be MS, Apple, etc.).  There are advantages and disadvantages to this, it really depends on what you want to do.

"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

Thanks.  Although not written in mono-syllables I think I now have an inkling of what it is.  I don't think I like it as I have severe trust issues with large corporations  :furtive:

  • They already own your data, so it is too late to start distrusting them.

Privacy is dead.  You will have to get used to the idea.

If you want privacy move to the wilds and disconnect yourself entirely from the Internet and cellphone network.  Don't use a credit card, take flights or enter any major metropolitian area.

And, frankly, even then they can work out where you are by cross referencing secondary sources who know you or are helping you.

  • If your looking for an NSA-Free browser or mail I heard that Yandex is one of them? Another one I've heard of is Safe Mail.

Yandex does not support the spy agencies of countries such as the U.S or Australia I heard which is why I've started using it and put my full name in the registration details. Privacy, one of the many features google and etc don't have if this is true.

  • Other services you can trust are probably German or Switzerland services for email or browser since those countries have very strong anti-privacy laws. Especially due to the fact that Switzerland is a real democracy because the majority wouldn't want their privacy being invaded and they get to have a say on that in Switzerland.

What we have now isn't even a real "democracy" despite my support for Theocracy.

  • In my observation, it really does not matter what browser or email client you utilize.  Unless both you and the recipient of the email are encrypting the contents of the email in a unique manner, the email contents are retained in clear text at both of your internet service providers, and it can be captured in realtime at every point of the email's movement from sender to recipient.

In other words, unless you protect the contents of online communications, everything you do on the internet is publicly accessible.
