    • I was thinking about getting Starlink Internet.
    Does anyone know if there are reasons NOT to get it? 
    Is it somehow related to the 5G issues?

    • Starlink is more intended for rural and isolated areas. Current service in urban areas is still better. Nothing to do with 5G.

    Well I think Starlink is using similar radio frequencies as mobile networks like 5G. If you're concerned for your health about RF radiation and exposure you might want to avoid using such a service for internet. Unless you absolutely can't avoid it if you're living in a rural area anyway ::)

    You also shouldn't have a problem with Elon Musk and with him sending hundreds of satellites into low earth orbit.

    • It's satellite internet, I used to have it when it first came out - not sure if it was called that back then but it sounds like it.

    I'm sure by now they've made improvements, but bad weather, even far away from you over the horizon will shut it down or slow it way down - only seems to happen when you really, really need the internet though. Also noticeably slower at peak times when more people are on it.

    Ping time was slow, hit the Enter key then give it about a quarter second for it to work. If you go over the limit and they charged a lot for each gigabyte or whatever. Not sure what they do now but those are the things I remember about it.

    Right, I've heard that they use the same dangerous frequencies as 5G.  Now, whether or not one subscribes to it, Elon Musk is going to bσɱbard the entire country in these waves, so it will be hard to get away from entirely.  Whether one sets up a receiver or not, these waves will be all around us.  Maybe the "tin-foil" guys were right after all.  We're absolutely awash with various EMFs already, and this will make it even worse.  I'm convinced that a lot of chronic health issues including mental health issues are caused by all this EM radiation.

    Maybe someone should engineer roofing materials that have a thin layer of EM shielding.  Aluminum foil actually does a decent job of blocking EMF and it's cheap.  When it comes time to replace my roof, I think I'm going to have the roofing guys lay down a few layers of aluminum foil under the shingles.   :laugh1:

    PERFECT.  I was thinking of going metal roof when mine needs replaced in a couple of years, and this cements it.

    Yep, I almost had a metal roof put on this past summer but I live in a fringe area for cell phone reception = metal roof would mean no cell reception inside the house.

    Also gotta watch out in winter time when the snow slides off, can come down hard in heavy sheets.
