Good Video Editing Program?

  • I've written this piece of instrumental music as a backdrop (attached) and I'd like to create a video - but I have no skills in creating videos.  Does anyone have any recommendations for easy-to-use video editors for newbs (maybe on Linux Mint so I can do a deeper dive on that)?  I might drop in an image and do some tweaks or create time lapse vid of clouds or something.  Thanks

  • I would recommend Hitfilm or just waiting for a site to sell Sony Vegas for 20 bucks.
I recant many opinions on the crisis in the Church and moral theology that I have espoused on here from at least 2019-2021 don't take my postings from that time as well as 2022 possibly too seriously.

  • Kdenlive. It's free and open source, is available for Linux (of course), and not too hard for beginners.

  • I took a look at these but this stuff is brand new to me.  For example, a basic idea I have would be for a 'Title Page' to fade in and maybe change color before I then fade that into the video/music clip.  Will these programs generate the title pages, banners, etc. or are they mainly the tool that will put those first steps together.  Right now I'm at the first steps trying to create a fade-in banner, etc.

  • Am only a hobbyist but used to work in Post so have lightly used Media Composer, FCP, Sony Vegas and Adobe Premier. I eventually settled on Adobe but wasn't using it enough to justify the monthly sub and so I've just started using Davinci Resolve.  They have a free version, and paid 'you own it' version and can recommend have cut projects on Adobe and Vegas.

I'll check it out.  I'm putting together a music channel and just need some real basic stuff to put at the front and back end of vids.  Thanks for the heads-up.

I have used Videopad for around 10 years. There are plenty of tutorials on youtube on how to do various effects. For example this is how to add in a fade in of text. https://youtu.be/nmYLIYtFdi4?

  • That's about as simple as it gets.  Thanks for the link.
