Spammers want in to CathInfo bad for some reason
« on: January 12, 2025, 09:49:54 AM »
Some say that independent website forums like CathInfo are obsolete, not the way of the future, etc.

And I was inclined to agree with them somewhat. HOWEVER, there is still MUCH value in them, even in 2025, as evidenced by the efforts made by spammers to sign up, put their websites in their profile, make posts, etc. If they weren't getting something from this (traffic/sales, search engine benefit, etc.) they wouldn't waste their time.

Today I woke up to 5 spammer signups (all rejected of course).
It looks like I had to disable the CAPTCHA for the registration -- that's bad, because CAPTCHA is the first line of defense against non-human or automated signups. I did change the registration question, and added a 2nd one. Maybe that will fend them off for a while until they update their bot software or whatever.

These forums are not obsolete, reddit is filled with Novus Ordo liberals, Catholic Discords are full of terminally online shitposters, less moderated places are full of spam and most older people don't use the internet. The best I have to vent about the garbage going on in the Catholic world are YT channels comment section.
