Title: Request: Font Size
Post by: 2Vermont on February 20, 2021, 07:45:54 AM
Can posters please try to re-size their posts, so they aren't so large?  It's not difficult to do.  After you post, you modify it by selecting the text you want to re-size and use the "A" with the vertical red arrows.  Quite honestly, I just skip over any post that is too large and takes up a lot of space.

Sorry, I just did this on the other post. ☹️ 😀 I too don’t like it, I wanted to correct it, but it was too late to modify it.

No problem.  I'm sure I've done this as well. However, I think there are certain posters that do this practically all of the time.

I also wish we had a bit more time to modify posts.  I think it's set to 15 minutes right now.

I just stopped reading a post that had this problem - huge bold letters - and was thinking the same thing.

Yeah, it's quite annoying.

If you ever come across too large text in your browser (or pretty much any software), you can hold Ctrl and either press + - or use the scroll wheel to change the zoom level.

Sorry, I'm sure I've done this.

I'm not always feeling well enough to fiddle with it much but will try to do better.  :)

I know it's much harder to fix when working on a phone, so maybe that's why there seems to be so much of it.

I have commented and complained about this matter literally for years. I specifically asked RC1953, one of the worst offenders, to stop doing it and even explained the extremely simple process for preventing the megafont problem from occurring. I was rewarded with a flurry of down thumbs for my trouble. Let me try again, however, whatever the consequences.

The method suggested by 2Vermont certainly works, but many browsers, perhaps most, offer an even simpler option (for the record, I use Opera). Microsoft Word does, too, if one's browser doesn't. Here are the steps for use with a browser.

1) Highlight and copy the material to be pasted here.
2) Once the specific point where the material is to be pasted has been selected, right-click the mouse to bring up a context menu (or do the equivalent via touchpad or keyboard).
3) From the context menu, choose Paste as Plain Text (i.e., rather than Paste) and click it.
4) The copied material will appear on the page in the default font and character size of the surrounding text.

Alternative steps for use with Microsoft Word.

1) Copy the material to be pasted.
2) When it is ready to be pasted into a Word file, go to the Edit dropdown, choose Paste Special, and click it.
3) A box with several options will appear. Choose Unformatted Text and click it.
4) The copied material will appear on the page in the default font and character size of the blank page or existing docuмent.

In both cases, what happens is that the copied material is stripped of all its native formatting, with nothing but letters, punctuation, and keyboard-generated symbols remaining. When it is pasted, it then adopts the "coloration" of its surroundings, rather like a chameleon might.

To cell phone users, I have no advice to offer, since I don't own one. Still, don't many smartphones have access to a cloud-based version of Word or to one of the free-to-use Microsoft Office clones (LibreOffice, OpenOffice, Google Docs, et al.)?

After selecting the whole post press '2'

I do as Donkath said, but she makes it so much easier to understand. I would have tried to explain it in more words without the graphic.

I have previously joined the chorus of those who have begged posters to reduce their fonts, but many are still posting in Plus Size fonts for the visually impaired.

I know I have been guilty of this.  I often cut and paste things that look okay at the time, but the actual post shows the font to be much larger.
I'll try to do better with my formatting.
Thanks Donkath for the info!
That was helpful. :)

Bump.

Matthew...any way to fix the time to modify posts?  Or fix things so that when text is copied and pasted into CI, it automatically comes in smaller?
