  • I'm what's called a windows xp refugee to Linux. I get a headache and mild insomnia without f.lux, and I asked on a Linux forum how to solve the problem, and so far I'm getting half answers / questions in language I don't understand. If you're willing to spend some time going step by step with me, I'd appreciate it very much. There's no rush.

I'm using a Dell 600 latitude and Linux Debian. If there's an easier version of Linux that you'd recommend, don't hesitate. I'm not even sure if I downloaded everything correctly.
What return shall I make to the Lord for all the things that He hath given unto me?

  • Redshift is available from the official Debian repositories. Just use your favorite package manager (like Apper on KDE), but if you don't have a package manager, then open a terminal and write:
    apt-get install redshift
Make sure gtk-redshift is installed, as it provides a GUI for it.

Thanks. I did that, and it seemed to have some kind of effect i.e. I didn't get any error messages or anything. Not sure how to make sure it was installed, though. Will be away from home until Wednesday evening. Will check back here then.

    Multis gratias!

I'm home now. How do I make sure it's installed? The screen looks about the same. Again, there's no rush.

  • I entered: sudo apt-get install gtk-redshift and I was told: (my name) is not in the sudoers file.  This incident will be reported.

Thanks for the link. Not sure where the instructions are, though.

  • Someone else has helped me, and it's working now.  Thank you.
