  • Will pray for you Matthew.
Is there anyway you could establish something independently?
Especially with the app creation- it seems like a skill in high demand.

  • You have my prayers, Matthew.  My husband is a software developer so I know just what you're talking about.  We went through this around ten years ago.  But he eventually got a great job and I hope you do too.

  • Welcome to the club. A similar story right here. LOL.

I think that the real reason is a combination of our Faith, age and AWS.

We do not lie (typically). We are more straightforward. We are often 10x more efficient. We are not dog-like obedient. Those qualities are very threatening to anybody who wants to maintain the status quo on the front line of management and is afraid of their jobs.

And the age factor. This is a bit more objective, to be honest. If I were an employer, building the team of young individuals would be a priority. However, those young people, even with the best education, while gaining some skills, literally have no clue how software works.

Last but not least, the cloud factor. I am sure you noticed already; building software these days is like playing with LEGO blocks, or rather AWS blocks. Most things/algorithms/hard-to-solve-problems were figured out by Amazon. You just need to assemble it like on a production line in a car factory.

  • There seems to be a fair amount of men on this forum who's expertise is computer oriented.  Maybe you should all get together and start your own company?

I doubt that Mr. Matthew would be willing to work with someone who believes that the Earth is not flat. Or I confused him with someone else :laugh1:?

  • Sorry you lost your job. That’s a total drag, plus it requires so much effort to get a new one. You have my prayers. I hope that God has better things ahead for you.

  • I’m no techie, but could you find work and updating antiquated systems? When the scamdemic hit, both NY and NJ were found to be using computer systems from the late 1980’s! With all the people applying for unemployment, various forms of assistance, etc, it was a disaster. I recall New Jersey in particular advertising for people familiar with both ancient computers and modern computers. That would mean they needed people old enough to have used their dinosaurs AND up-to-date. I’m not sure of your age or qualifications, but perhaps you might look into it.

Matthew, would you be able to fix this? Main drawback is that it’s in NYC. It’s an example of what I was talking about!

  • I forgot to mention in my original post that (for now) I'm also open to part time work, contract work, or "gigs". Obviously most people on CathInfo have no need of a full time software developer. In fact, most businesses can't afford to keep a full time software developer on staff. But they often need this or that software development work done -- hence the market for contract work, software development "gigs", etc.

As for what kind of software development I'm capable of, it's probably best to PM or e-mail me. As I mentioned, since before I became an adult software development has been my only career (aside from a 3 1/2 year stint at a Traditional seminary).
