  • Australia now requires age verification for certain websites, so to access Substack for example I need to provide biometrics in the form of photos and some form of ID.

A nice way for them to build a list of potential dissidents, and a juicy target for hackers at the vendors who process the information.

Twitter gave me a notification about scanning a qr code to do some kind of verification in their app, i scanned the qr code to see what requirements they had but since i dont use the app (i use the site in browser) nothing happened. Also i can still post without verifying id so not sure lol.

Interesting, I have the substack app, but I just checked my profile and there is no country setting on it.

So I'll posit that Substack has logged my IP and geo-located my IP, maybe X is delaying the implementation, after the last court case with e-Safety?
