  • I guess I've just been on the Net for a long time.

I realize that Fisheaters has been "washed up" for a long time now, but to see CathInfo actually take over and then pass up the position once held by Fisheaters -- it's rather humbling. FE used to be THE Trad forum, probably the single largest, before their series of scandals which rocked the online Trad world.

I was just looking at the raw numbers (which don't lie):

    From 9/22/18 to 1/22/19:

Fisheaters went up by 5,209 posts

CathInfo went up by 12,157 posts

So although FE is an older forum, it appears their best years are behind them. They still have a large archive of past posts, and a lot of dead weight in their member database. But when it comes to the most IMPORTANT metric -- traffic or activity -- CI is about 2.3X as active.

And while it will be YEARS until CathInfo passes up FE in terms of # of posts or # of members (because of their multi-year head start), it looks like CathInfo can already celebrate.

  • Never been on Fisheaters, but I know it has a reputation here for being a bit loony. What's the general culture/demographic there compared to here, and what makes people say that?

    1. It's run by a woman
    2. That woman is all (stereotypical) woman. Not some kind of exception to the rule (i.e., able to carry on reasoned conversation, well in control of emotions, etc.)
    3. She is extremely liberal
    4. She came out in support of a transgendered member and insisted that we use his preferred pronoun ("she")
    5. It became public that she (a divorced woman) was living together with one of the mods, QuisUtDeus (also separated from his wife).
    6. She looks down on serious 24/7 Trads as some kind of radicals or hypocrites
    7. Women that choose to wear skirts/dresses full time get mocked and called "immodest", "little house on the prairie" or Rad Trad
    8. Etc.

Many people left after each scandal, until the place became only a shell of its former self. Today, the membership there is "worldly Trad" or "Sunday Trad" at best. Not any knowledgeable, serious Trads left there at this point. They all left long ago for CathInfo and other places.
