CathInfo will be getting a new router -- which could affect the Internet connection, and even the Static IP address that CathInfo depends on!

I'm trying to mitigate that danger by "cloning" the Mac address (think: fingerprint) of my old router, so my Internet provider won't know the difference. I'm glad routers have that feature -- the ability to use each other's unique fingerprints.
I'm pretty sure I made that mistake in the past (got a new router, ended up with a new Static IP address!)

But I just wanted to give everyone a heads-up, that there is a NONZERO chance that CathInfo could be cut off from the Internet for some undefined length of time.

If the Static IP changes, it will take up to 2 days for the changes to propagate across the Internet.

But we're OK here at CathInfo headquarters, regardless. There just might be a bump. Praying there isn't!

UPDATE: Total failure. The new router won't connect to the Internet. I configured everything, everything about the router works, EXCEPT connecting me to the Internet.
It even says "WAN Connected", with my proper IP address, and "Internet: Connected". Except -- it doesn't work. No connectivity to the Internet at all.

I tried everything. My ISP is closed for today; they promised to call me back, and literally lied to me (they didn't call me back, even after 1.5 hours).

So I had no choice but to put my tail between my legs, and re-connect the old router. Everything came back up within SECONDS.

Ugh.

I DO NOT enjoy my server being down this long. In case you couldn't tell.

I'll try again tomorrow. I've had it for today.

UPDATE: I will be trying again at 11:00 AM Central time.
So expect an outage. 

It won't be as long though; I will be calling my ISP *before* I take it down, and make sure I'm ready to go.
