    • I'm trying to set up a microsoft account and it asks for a cell phone number to text a verification to.  I don't have a cell phone. How can I do it without going out and buying a cell phone?

    I tried their help line but there is no answer.

    •  If you don't have a mobile [cell] phone, a possible option is via your computer.  If that is the case, the numbers appear on the computer screen and you can verify by pressing the numbers on your landline keypad.

    • Computer display is not an option either.  It seems odd that a person would have to have a cell phone in order to have a MS account, I know most people have them but not everyone does.  There must be an alternative that I'm missing.

    • Most places will give you the option of having a verification number sent by e-mail.  Not sure about Microsoft.
